Usual short circuit in the Lake District to a couple of favourite spots:

Buttermere and Haystacks:

Parked up at the top of the Newlands Pass, had to clamber at least some way up something. From the flanks of Robinson:
https://i.postimg.cc/HkbNv4B8/DSCN1183.jpg
Would have gone a bit higher, but it was getting a bit too steep and scrambly considering I only had one hand free, jacket under my other arm.
I thought it would be busier than it was, so had my bimble head on, but wasn't that bad traffic-wise actually. Had some fun on the main road coming home, but even there, it was just nice to be on a bike again, so wasn't caning it. Like a shot of oxygen after months of near suffocation. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I've still got some photos of Penshurst Place from when I went years ago on my SV. One of my first such trips of exploration, the kind of thing that gave me the touring bug. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Small B4391 run to show up any loose/forgotten ends. Went with a mate on his Crossrunner - 87 miles.

Went onto Bala lake for a quick look at what's about, then A494>A5 home. Filtered at least half of the A494 between Bala and the A5, mental traffic, fuck being in a car. ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |

What was supposed to be a quick blast to Hartside Top and back ended up a bit longer due to a road closed diversion which took me a very long way round.
Don't know the name of this place, looked interesting, some parts surely medieval, private estate I think:
https://i.postimg.cc/zGBQf9rC/DSCN1194.jpg
Another one, this one a hotel/restaurant. There was a sign inviting people to come in and look around, but since I didn't get out till well past lunchtime, I didn't bother. Maybe another time:
https://i.postimg.cc/mkjdLSpp/DSCN1196.jpg
Nice, peaceful spot to stop for a fag break:
https://i.postimg.cc/5NGBwGzq/DSCN1200.jpg
Dunno, some churches are just photogenic:

Stopped for a coffee at the petrol station in Alston, loads of bikes coming and going.
Up on Hartside; never been much of an old Brit-iron fan, but always liked these, T160(?) Trident, sleek-looking thing:
https://i.postimg.cc/X7w5CJV3/DSCN1204.jpg
Owner said it was on its second engine, but the chassis had covered 328,000 miles since he bought it new for £1200 44 years ago. Truly pristine example.
Then it was down through Melmerby, A66 to Keswick for a cuppa, where this was parked up, and I've made up my mind now:

It took seeing one out and about to convince me, they do look very nice.
About 130 miles all in. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

There was just an ice cream van up there this afternoon.
Nothing been started on the ruins of the old cafe.
Views were really hazy today.
It's just a nice ride up and back even without the cafe, and somewhere at a convenient distance to stop for a break. I like to stop quite often, especially if there's something interesting to nose around with the camera, and I thought there might be something interesting bike or car-wise up there on such a nice day.

They're nice, but I'm still "meh" over inline 4's. Sound plays a huge part in my decision on bikes. I'm a picky fucker though. |
I think the pipe on it was standard, but it didn't sound bad when it pulled away despite that. Obviously could sound better with something aftermarket and more open, but I actually thought of the old Z1s when I heard it. Certainly looked striking in the green.
IL4s? I like em. Well, quite a few of them anyway. Just what I grew up with. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Went for a run around the fens today - went to Springfields in Spalding but despite finding loads of barriered car parks and riding up and down more times than I care to remember, there was nowhere for parking bikes - so I just put it on the edge of the precinct and left these Mallards looking after it...
https://i.postimg.cc/brxPKZ87/Springfields.jpg
They thought I was quackers!
Fekkin typical, though - lost count of how many times I've had frustrated discussions with overzealous "security" wallahs over putting my bike in an obscure, out of the way place when they try to give a lecture about why you can't park it there - sometimes to come back later and some other bike (probably his mate) is parked there.
Mind you, G4S are the worst - always finding the twats parked on the bike bay in town. ____________________ Fazer Thou Gen 1 |

Yeah, it's my 2nd - liked the first one a lot, but the chord broke and left it locked, but I was able to work it off my bonce and bodged it until I got this one.
Won't get another one, though, now find it too cold in my fisog due to draughts around the visor.
ps: looking to get an open helmet next - yeah, I know it's just a mite colder than a closed one but I will then dress accordingly. I've grown to detest closed lids in warm weather. ____________________ Fazer Thou Gen 1 |

I used to work in the returns department of the UK Box distributor. We got dozens of those back, all because the release cable stretched, locking them shut. At one time, when the management decided we ought to do something other than bin them (some of them locked shut after just a couple of times used), we had a pallet stacked high with them, awaiting a decision. Fortunately, considering their price, the management finally came to their senses and said to get rid of them. There was something very satisfying about destroying such crap lids, ridding the world of what should never have been ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Nice, leisurely 80 mile trip round the central Lincolnshire area today - stopping at Webbs in Lincoln to slavver over the latest Trumpets and Yammys and check my bike in for it's next biggie service.
Stopped at the BBMF - nothing out today....

Tattershall Castle - covered by trees in every direction!

...and Lincoln Cathedral, coming from the East - looked much more clear with the mince pies...

I came from the direction of Bardney, only to find the bridge was closed to traffic - but the foreman told me I could push my bike over if I wanrted - fekk me, it's bluddy evvy uphill!! Was knackered after the 200 yard push. ____________________ Fazer Thou Gen 1 |

Guildford to Climping and back. 110 miles on Gixxer.
Wonderfully sunny and limited traffic return journey.
In stark contrast to the queues on the way down and force 10 gale that sucked the oxygen out of your lungs if you dared open your mouth to speak.

Not sure the message is period correct for these anti-tank defences. But I like to think it was just typically British. No entry Hitler, its a private road.

Twiddled the rear preload 10 times on the way back to stop pushing the front.
Have used slightly too thick oil front (10w) and back (7.5w) too (currently running zero comp and rebound damping at the front and 1/6 comp on rear). But it will wait until Winter. It's nearly June after all. Enough time spent in the garage not riding |
