Errrrrr, it's to do with the lack of racial diversity in Extinction Rebellion. I'm sure they're got every gender and sexual orientation known to mankind and some which have yet to be discovered.

They claim to be "working to improve diversity in our movement" so they know that they're racist. Razz

There was that wimmins' group in 'murica that had that problem:

Look at things this way: Scientists are basically skint and desperate for another research project to work on. Sure they have morals but if it means the difference between eating or not, they'll choose to eat and provide research papers for their sponsors (insert governments, action groups etc) that really don't give the whole story.
Not sure about how desperate they are for work? Animal testing on primates is a big thing in Holland. The scientists working at the sites are very much against doing what they do but it pays their bills. Their excuse is it 'helps human kind' which yes it does but what utter cnuts..

Anyway, predictions by scientists are like someone attempting to map a beach - it changes by the minute.

Seven Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists have glued themselves to the London Stock Exchange, while others have climbed on top of a train at Canary Wharf station as part of a planned day of protest against the finance industry.

Two men and five women, wearings LED signs reading: "Climate emergency", "Tell the truth" and "You can't eat money", linked arms outside the financial institution before 7am.

Extinction Rebellion named the activists on its website and gave their ages and occupations.

They include Alan Heath, 55, a research scientist, Jen Witts, 38, a support worker, Sian Vaughan 53, a retired head teacher, Debbie Rees, 57, a gardener and artist, Kef Shimidzu, 55, a tutor, Lucy Galvin, 53, a civil servant and Johnny Woon, 60, who is retired.

A further six protesters, five men and one woman, also from Extinction Rebellion also blocked a second entrance to the stock exchange.

Easy Tiger,

You are implying that the opinion of a certain sector of society is less valid than other people's. Next you'll be suggesting a ban from social media...

If you do all those things, they won't be saying that you are the problem.

I'd have more respect for them if instead of gluing themselves to random objects they set themselves alight, Tibetan monk style... they'd have to source some bio-diesel or ethanol to remain carbon-neutral ofc.

I remember at school in the 1990's we were taught the years when we'd run out of raw materials.
By now we should be out of Coal, Oil, and Aluminium.
In fact we wouldn't ever "run out". These materials would become so scarce they would be too expensive.

The other thing I was taught was rising sea levels due to melting icebergs. This is not strictly correct. Melting ice from the land (e.g. Antarctica yes), but melting icebergs do not raise sea levels because ice has (very nearly) the same density as water.

A 10 second google gave me the below:

Sauce: https://www.ucsusa.org/global-warming/science-and-impacts/science/each-countrys-share-of-co2.html

2015 total emissions country rank

Country & Total carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion (million metric tons) / per capita
1 China 9040.74 / 6.59

2 United States 4997.50 / 15.53

3 India 2066.01 / 1.58

4 Russia 1468.99 10.19

5 Japan 1141.58 / 8.99

6 Germany 729.77 / 8.93

7 South Korea 585.99 / 11.58

8 Iran 552.40 / 6.98

9 Canada 549.23 / 15.32

10 Saudi Arabia 531.46 / 16.85

11 Brazil 450.79 / 2.17

12 Mexico 442.31 / 3.66

13 Indonesia 441.91 / 1.72

14 South Africa 427.57 / 7.77

15 United Kingdom 389.75 / 5.99

China producing nearly 30 times what we do, but I guess you have to look at a combination of overall and per capita. The particularly naughty ones there I see are:
China
US
Russia
South Korea
Canada
Saudi Arabia

Maybe those friends of humanity should fcuk off over to those countries and glue themselves to shit.

Is a country's area an accurate way to depict it's contribution to the problem? Is it even a useful way?

Per capita is just a way of making everything seem better.

India, third largest emitter but one of the smallest per capita. It's only because 90% is still backwater farming which has spawned a completely different form of pollution that has devastated it's rivers but isn't included in this scenario.

When will the world ever get it's shit together and say enough.

Too many people. Somehow we (as in the countries of the world) have to stem population growth.

However I don't hold out any real hope. If China China couldn't do it as a one party dictatorship with their single child rule, what hope has the rest of this fcuked up world population.

Don't worry about it. There are so many possibilities for destruction of large swathes of the human population, something will get a load of us somehow at some point. Avoid global warming, and it might be disease. Avoid that, and it may be shortages of food or other resources. Failing that, it might be a major meteor strike or volcanic event. Or maybe we'll take a more direct hand in things and nuke each other to endangered species status.

So cheer up! Very Happy
