Depends on budget really. The 929 is the cheapest. People like 954's (although I don't). The pre 2000 models are becoming classics now and are increasing in price. The 2008 is considered a good balance of technology and price.

I've only ever ridden once on a 954, and it was too much bike for me really at the time to consider buying.

Personally now if I wanted a blade it would have to be cos I love Honda's and the history/nostalgia/revolution of them. I probably wouldn't have one as a daily mile muncher, more of a toy/coming classic/nostalgia trip to bikings great times.

Therefore I'd either go for a 95-98 blade and put some nice suspension and a pipe on it. Or I'd go for a 2004> (first of the 1000's). The new blades from what I've seen look nice, well made but are probably smaller than an RGV250 physically. That'd be no good to me at all.

I quite like the fat arse of the old blades with the big underseat boot they have. You won't see bikes like that again and the old ones fuck me are they tough and take some abuse!

Yeah this is it. Loads of people say the 954 is the best road bike etc, but I found it too much.

The '93 to '99 bikes are physically HUGE in comparison with modern bikes. A mate of mine has a '93 with upgraded '99 suspension and loads of resto-mod goodness. I sat on it and thought I was going to pull a tendon of some sort because of the width of the tank. He's a big guy so it's fine for him, but it wasn't for me. I vaguely like the idea of a '95 or '98 bike to tool around on, but it would serve no real purpose in my garage so I don't think I'll ever take the plunge. If I were to go 'blade again, it would be a 2008 but I think they are a bit too much for me. 170bhp is just silly IMO, and if I wanted pure powaah I 'd probably go down the Aprilia RSV4 or Tuono V4 route. If I got offered a cheap 2008 I might not turn it down, but there are other bikes that suit my needs more I think.

I had a 1994 US import 900rr

Nice bike, typical of 90s sports bike, aka like a barge but had road presense but handled very well and went like stink.

It did die one day, suspected electrical issues and sold it.

I did find it on Ebay again after a touch up and respray, looked damn fine!

I have a 97 RRV as a commuter and it is a solid reliable bike. Had it around 7 years and only failure was the reg/rec.

Admittedly I felt the same when I got mine, but then I felt the same going from the CBT 125 to my CBR600F so it's just a case of getting used to the power.

I've had my 954 for about 10 years and I have no interest in changing it any time soon. Absolutely love the thing.

I get not everyone has the same experiences but for me...

The 954 is the perfect balance between speed and comfort. It's silly fast when you want it to be but perfectly agile for the every day commute filtering.

The thing goes like a litre bike and corners like a 600. In fact it's lighter than the CBR600 it replaced!

I use mine for everything. The weekend blast, the commute, 1600+ mile tour around scotland and it never missed a beat; and more importantly, I wasn't broken after it either.

Though I will admit when we got lost one day and ended up doing 350miles in one go I was shattered. I think I pulled over at one point after spotting a closed garden centre and collapsed on a bench for a bit but then any sports bike will tire you being in that position for extended periods of time.

I've covered over 46k on it and it's still spot on. Serviced regularly, had the suspension reconditioned by MCT and the usual pads/chain replacements but it's not needed anything else.

Only changes I've made is a shiftholder (gear shaft stabiliser) to crisp up the gear change, braided brake lines and a steering damper. Didn't have one for years but it has a habit of lifting the front under hard acceleration and after a couple of nasty headshakes from hitting catseyes etc.. I got one. This was before I got the suspension done though. Shouldn't need it if the bike is well setup, but now it's on I'm leaving it.

The 924s are a worthy alternative but I find hte styling a tad too dated and they suffered with water pooling at the bottom of the casing leading to corrosion. The 954 doesn't have that issue.

Only issue it really has is fueling at low revs. Most people fix it with a power commander but I never felt the need.

Mine's getting on 16 years old now and still looks modern (in my eyes). Certainly not dated. Love it, can't recommend it enough if you can find a good example.

I've got a 2005 blade. Had it since 2015. It's currently on 39k, bought it on 11k. The common fault for 2004-2006 blades is the charging system, they burn through stators and reg recs. The solution is to fit a modified flywheel and stator from Honda circa £370 (easy to diy). My bike went through two stators before i bit the bullet and paid Honda. Apart from a front wheel bearing mine has needed nothing apart from consumables.

I test rode a low mileage 2014 in Repsol. Looked gorgeous. Was smooth to ride but I was a bit underwhelmed by the power compared to my Busa. Light and flickable though. A nice toy!

Had on 06 model. Would get another one tomorrow if I had money and room. Honda sportsbikes all seem to like reg/recs. Do like the 08 front end in black and white though. A 97 rrt or rrv would be in my lottery win garage though. And the 954 I rode wasn't bad, just not as accomplished as the 06 thou.
