Hi, I'm trying to source a motor for a frame i have but i'm having trouble finding the physical dimensions for the engine to see whether it'll fit my frame.

mainly interested in the size of the bandit 600 engine, also the 750/600 honda shadow engine sizes

if you have these bikes can you do a quick check of length, width and height of the motors, and/or if you know where to find them.

thanks

You missed a bit.

On the other hand, there might be a workshop accident that makes motor meet fingers and he fucks back off to Mumsnet or HarleysandDogging or some shit.

OP - Really want to do it? Buy one. Measure it. Most 600 motors will fit most "off the shelf" custom frames, but you need to work on them, even it was designed for the specific model of motor youre chucking in. If you just want to get bolt-on stuff, buy a Harley and get one of the many Harley gay porn mags, sorry, "accessory" telephone directories, (Custom chrome, Highway hawk etc) and have at it. Lube your wallet first though, and I'd suggest your arse before you sell it to afford the stuff, shit is aimed at well off professionals with large disposable incomes that are well into a mid life crisis.

Well built (taste being left out of the equation) Custom bikes are either expensive and take a lot of time to build, or are Holy Shit! How Much? expensive.

They are 2 very differently sized engines.... for obvious reasons.

They are about the right size to fit in a Bandit 600 frame and a Shadow 750 frame. HTH

ah ignorance and unnecessary off handed comments galore!

most of the guys I've met use Japanese motors, build their own frames and all in all put as little as a grand into the bikes. You can pick up a bandit for less than a grand, autojumbles and ebay sources present cheap aftermarket parts and frames cost as much as the steel.

I already have a frame hence why I need the dimensions, seeing what I can pick up for cheap and chuck in there.

I don't really understand what your issue is, maybe you're getting old and staring down the last leg of your life, and seeing a kid doing something he enjoys bugs your miserable arse too much.

Didn't ask for your approval dude, nor to post unhelpful responses. So if you want to help a fellow rider out, please feel free to continue to reply, if not take a hike if your knees haven't given out yet.

Why not just buy a bandit? Or are you more concerned with looking like an audition for sons of autism than actually riding bikes?

I bet you have a denim jacket anorl....

Given it's not a cuboid, and it's narrower where it sits over the frame, various bits protrude, and the cylinder axis is slightly tilted, are you sure that's what you need? I'd want more than just the bounding box.

The help is there kiddo, you're just too sensitive to take it on board. Stop with the "Fellow rider" bullshit.

My issue is that if you're asking questions of the type and in the manner you are, you have fuck all clue what's involved in making a decent custom or chop.
As for it being a Japanese engine, I have no issue with that, I don't know where you manage to manufacture an issue from. Every custom or chop I've built has had one, with one exception, a Guzzi 750.

Your rant about frames? You didn't read what was written properly, but yet again, it is firmly into "you don't know how much work is involved" realms here. Bandit motors are so cheap, go buy one and measure it. Then you'll know if it'll fit. If not, flog it on. If you're not willing to do that, you'll certainly never get a chop together, let alone to a standard that'll pass any SVA test, or whatever they're calling it this week. If you're chopping the frame, you'll need one.

What engine was the frame built for?

I understand that its a custom frame, and part of the appeal is that you can fit just about anything to it, but there are limits to what is sensible. Fabricating the engine mounts and getting them to line up and kill off some vibration is going to be tricky on a lot of Japanese engines, where some of the mounts are designed to slot into the the frame with a very long bolt to pinch it tight. That means fabricating and welding is a precision job. Even measuring is tricky, working out where to measure from and doing the same on both sides. I would think twice about repairing a Bandit frame where one of the mounts had broken or rusted away, let alone making mounts from scratch.

Choosing a more appropriate engine, like a rubber mounted Harley engine, makes this job a lot simpler. They tend to sit on (rather than hang from) a couple of big rubber mounts. This means your tolerance is measured in mil, not fractions of a mil.

You also need to consider the top frame tube, which is the one you really don't want to be cutting or welding. It's doing the most work.

Finally, fuel tank-to-engine clearance can be a pain in the arse. Seeing as fuel tank size and appearance is going to matter, I would pick a fuel tank first and then see what will fit under it and look good. Bear in mind that, unless you want to use a fuel pump, you need the fuel tap to be at least a couple of inches higher than the carb float bowls - which will rule out things with high mounted, downdraft carbs.

I don't like stock bikes very much

If i wanted to impersonate the show i'd buy a Dyna, not a rigid jap chop

Nope!

OK so i throw a bit of banter back and now you're acting like a wetwipe.
You don't have a clue what I know or don't, I merely asked for some general engine dimensions, and now you turn this into some sort of 'I have done more shit than you' rant. Jump off your high horse.

I have a frame, I have a motor that fits correctly and aligned. So you can go fuck yourself tbh.

and for the record, I'll bet i finish my chop before you pull that stick out your arse.

A note about us 'olds'. *

I know it sounds obvious, but we've been 17. We know what it's like to be a young kid, and we know what makes biking fun. It's not looking like some reject from Sons of Primarchy.

Handling, power, lack of weight... that's what makes biking fun. It's the comfort, practicality and ease of use that makes biking tenable when you can't stand up without saying 'ooh'.

* 39 years old. Not actually old, but remember just like with bikes and speed, anyone who is younger than you is a kid and anyone who is older is *old*.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I tried to give you a hand without spoonfeeding you, but you're a know it all little autistic shit that just can't grasp what we're trying to tell you. £50 that we never see you, not your mates, produce a chop that's able to get SVA'd. Can't wait to see your birdshit beads, holes and inclusions when you go trying to put motor mounts on a frame.
