The theory is that you have solar on a sunny day, wind on windy day, excess power is used to pump water into to the dam and when you need a little extra top up (FA Cup, half time, kettle goes on) you let the water out of the dam and through the turbines...

Doesn't that sound like utopia!

Ffestiniog power station (1963), Dinorwig power station (1984) or Glyn Rhonwy (construction starting) (other examples exist).

Just do what Germans do. Say you're going full green, that you're banning nuclear power and then just buy the electricity from abroad. Thumbs Up

See my post on "Extinction Rebellion or how not to win an argument".
Germany is the 6th largest polluter in the world, twice as much as us, AND 50% more per capita.

Doesn't sound full green to me! Could be related to banning NP.

Nuclear? Nah! Might give plenty of ooomph but look at the effort that goes into producing the fuel, power station, waste products etc. I bet if you factor that lot in it makes nuclear far less attractive.
A plenty of super clean oomph. I would not be surprised if building a nuclear power plant would come out cleaner than building solar panels, that would at least try to match the power output of an nuclear power plant. In the long run, of course.

Mentioned earlier - LPG motorcycles. I wonder why it was never tried?

A heavy metal tank and lack of impact damage protection, would be some of the issues.

Woodgas is pretty doable. Highly carcinogenic, but doable.

I had an idea once about a Nuclear Powered Motorcycle.

Pros would be you'd never have to fill it up.

Cons would be you'd probably end up with three legs, two @ssholes and god knows what else.

...aaaannnnd dragging things back to the original topic, if I may Smile

Rarely does the question of safety arise: is it possible to quantify how "dangerous" a petrol tank is in a collision versus a battery pack?

Certainly if a petrol pump leaks you glance around for naked flames. If a 450kW charger "leaks" you glance around to see which tree your arm has ended up in.
