Just built my first custom bike, a Honda CG125 99’.
Took quite a bit of hard work!

Cut and welded the frame, stitched the seat, painted the tank. Top engine rebuild, bought bike bike for £100. Sat outside for 8 years without a cover!

Got the frame powder coated too. What do you think?!

Paintwork and finish look decent enough.
But I don't like the bike at all or the end result tbh?
What were you trying to make a CG into exactly? A street scrambler? A trials bike? Or a cool hipster machine for cafe posing?

I don't think a CG makes for a good example of any of these, and as the bike is road legal, what are the knobbly tyres doing for the handling and grip on the road? My gut says fuck all tbh!

Sound personally insulted! Just going for a Brat look, something unique to fit my styling needs. Gave it another life instead of sitting in a garden for the rest of its life. Grip is actually good! (Just not in the rain) got some good tyres on her

Lol! I'm not insulted at all by another man's 125, I just don't get the whole brat look and what Its supposed to deliver to the riding experience, other than just an exercise in style for styles sake?

I get turning a std road bike into say a cafe racer (bizarrely the CG lends itself looks wise to this behaviour quite well). Or you want to build a CG trials or trail bike or even a flat tracker.

But I'm always of the opinion that mixed styles don't work, and that bikes need to be specialised as much as possible for one thing. That's why I don't like all rounders, or bikes that pretend to be off roaders with knobbly tyres on 17" wheels and road bike suspension.

Don't say it too loudly on here in case I get called a cunt, but do kind of see the hipster thing as good when it saves an unpopular old bike from the scrap yard and let's it live longer. What I don't get is when people chop up a decent bike with lots of life left in it, and then cause the price of said bikes to rocket as there are no good std ones left to restore.

But what do I know about bikes, I've got an 80's 125 that's covered in aftermarket tat myself.

I personally prefer best looks over cafe racer as I prefer a flat and very badly padded uncomfortable seat. She gets looks like crazy, with the chrome visor I can see that people are looking without them knowing I’m looking right back at them!

Yeah when I got her she was in a horrible state, I’ll attach a picture!

So of the the things that massively irritate me about todays 'yoof' you seem to have bucked the trend.

1. Built, not bought.
2. Not hanging around vandalising stuff ( apart from an old CG125 Razz )
3. Appreciates the value of hard work.
4. Recycle not replace

Whether people like what YOU like is not relevant. It's not a bike i'd ride but then i'm so old i can barely remember what the number 18 looks like let alone what it felt like.

So as a first 'thing' that you did yourself and enjoy using, well done that man.

I'd have a thicker seat Mr. Green

From my amateur point of view, that looks superb !.

My first thoughts were total retro.
dislikes would be the wrapped exhaust, couldn’t you have a chrome pipe ?.

Loving the nobly tires.

👌

I don't think chrome exhausts or thicker seats cut it though in the name of style, and sex appeal.

I'd still love to have described to me exactly what a brat bike it, and what tick list every brat needs to be a good/authentic one.

There must be a riding condition or situation where knobbly

17/18" tyres on road bike suspension is truly unbeatable and has immense grip.

Maybe it's from the same school that says you can have forward footpegs on a cafe racer, or Renthal MX bars on a fully faired sports bike?

Looks like a decent mod, not unique as you might think though, sadly.
if you are in the CG125 owners group on facebook, you will see 1 standard CG out of like 25, they are so cheap and utterly fucked these days that they all get chopped and modded, mine for example, having to change the crankshaft in the engine and its slowing down my progress on Cafe Racer'ing it. Again not an original idea at all but i've always wanted to do it so fuck it lol.
