Hi all

Been on my MT125 for a year now.
Looking to get out more and gain more road time.
Ideally be doing some mod 1 and 2 training.

Located just outside Glasgow.

I'll PM you some good routes to ride on a 125 later on. What area of Glasgow are you?

My tip: don't always pick the easy route...

Mate at work "do you go up the A3?"

No, where would be the fun in that?! A long straight road, absolutely nothing to do apart from dodging idiots shifting lanes unexpectedly Sad

Instead I take a route with loads of bends, hills, junctions, road humps, etc. - a right PITA - but much more interesting!

It’s not about where you are located.
Just stick a pin in the map and make that your destination Thumbs Up

Get out to Lennoxtown then head over the hills to Fintry, Kippen, Arnprior, Port of Menteith, Thornhill, Callander, then over the Dukes Pass to Aberfoyle and back via Drymen. That'll be a decent local run on a 125 from where you are.

There're lots of good roads around the Trossachs. For most fun on a little bike look for smaller A/B roads. There's loads in the borders too around Moffat/Selkirk or the Galloway Forest area if you want to travel s little further. I'd have no hesitation going on longer trips up north either but much of the roads north are more open and might be a little more frustrating on the little bike unless you're happy to sit back and enjoy the awesome scenery. The A93 past Braemar then the A939 is a good run which is bendy enough to entertain on a small bike. Loads of other awesome stuff around Tomintoul too.

Edited to add - Loch Lomond is shit for riding. Too busy and roads are not the best. Avoid it.

Many thanks for the welcome.

And cheers for those road recommendations, be great to tail along to an experienced rider as my confidence is lacking 😡.

I really need to get out and practice more.

Can anyone advise when I can enter the Scotland group, I have sent a request to admin, but no access yet ?.

Sadly I think most of the regional groups are dead. For instance I'm in the Midlands, should be a big area, but no posts in a year?

The regional forums are dead so you're not missing out on anything. Laughing

Admin of the Scotch regional forum last posted six years ago so I wouldn't expect them to approve your request any time soon. Laughing

Ok fair enough that I’m not missing out on local Scotland gossip.

I wouldn’t mind meeting other newbies around the Glasgow area to go on a few runs and gain more road time.

I don’t use my bike for commuting to work which is a shame as I would love going to and from a place of work just to get the miles in.

Any instructors on the forum ?.

Al.

You're welcome to tag along with me, still have a 125 in the stable. You can have as much fun on the tiddler as the big bike with the right mind set, but it is a different experience. I'm just back from Applecross on mine and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the lower than usual pace.

What's to stop you commuting?

I hope to take you up on that offer, that looks like a journey.

Do you live in Glasgow ?, how long was that journey up to Applecross ?.

I don’t commute on bike as I use the company van, which is why I want to get out and learn more on my 125, I’ve had the bike for 1 year and engine is probably not even broke in.

I’m looking around just now and pricing up training for mod 1 and 2.

Leaving just after 9am I got there about 5pm after a few stops to admire the view, it's about 260-280 miles each way. I took the longer route initially up the A9 then onto the A93 and A939 via Glenshee and Tomintoul, then up to Inverness via Granton and west from there to Loch Carron. A different experience to the bigger bike in that I found I saw more and stopped more to look at things and found more little roads I'd like to explore. The little bike also kept up with traffic no bother for the most part, even managed a very slow overtake for six!
