How come thous ( on the whole are generally lighter than an average 600/650?, it seems a bit like a cat barking to me!

Do they have a higher class of frame instead of heavy girder steel?

You can only compare like for like to get a true idea of the comparable weights.

2018 R1. 199kg
2018 R6. 188kg.

2018 ER6. 211kg

An expensive sports bike designed to be as light as possible v a solid, cheaply made commuter. You have answered your own question.

2006 Street triple r 189kg
2018 Street triple r 186kg

Which proves exactly nothing except the expensive bikes weigh less. Cool

Race reps/Sports bikes/Race bikes, whatever you want to call them, are light and powerful by design. They use better materials and components that are lighter, and also more expensive. Commuters, Tourers, Cruisers etc, don't *need* to be light, so they cost less to build.

as above you need to compare like to like, although with the Z series which I will be buying into soon I am a bit unsure why the Z800 weighs more than the Z1000, I understand why the new Z900 weighs less as it is a newer model, saying that I am going for the fattest out of the three the Z800 as personally I think it looks the best and is the right amount of power balance to fuel consumption for my commute

For cost reasons there's been a bit of upwards trend in weight if anything.
(And sports bikes haven't been able to get much lighter because of both extra power to handle and emissions stuff on stock bikes.)

The Z800 and the Z1000 uses the same engine block its just been sleeved to reduce capacity or someshit like that
