So i passed my mod 2 earlier this month (woop woop!) but couldn't surrender my licence on the day as i was going on a road trip with friends (in a car, i have a full car licence) and needed to have my licence on me in order to pick up the rental. But now that i'm back i'm looking on the net for info on how to update my licence and not finding much.

The info tends to either be about handing in a provisional for a full licence, which isn't applicable to me, or upgrading my car licence to a include driving larger machines. It's difficult to find any thing about adding an A category to an existing car licence.

Any help?

The process is more or less the same for any licence upgrade.

There should be a section on the certificate that you need to sign. Send that with a D1 (?) form (download it or get it from the post office).

But yeah, it's a billion times easier if you just hand in your licence on the day.

I believe you can do it online on DVLA website,. As a word of caution, don't send back your driving licence, tick box to say lost or stolen, you will have to pay, but if DVLA f'ups your licence you will have your old licence as proof of what you had,. Hapend to partner, sent off for an updated required new driving licence, got a licence back with no bike licence, and on complaining to DVLA, said her new licence wasn't valid and not issued by them,. She found her licence now is a provisional car licence and not full. She could not prove she had full licences as she never kept certificats and driving test center had been shut more than 20 years ago,. She passed back in 77 for bike and 80 for car. So keep everything filed safely.
