tl;dr scrotes glued my chain lock to immobilise bike, got nothing, no damage to bike.

Came out this evening from work to the bike and went to undo the chain, noticed something was up with the padlock, couldn’t get the key in.

Upon closer inspection it appeared someone had filled the barrel with superglue Confused meaning I couldn’t unchain the bike.

Tried heading to the hardware store to see if they had anything that could help, but they were closed. Noticed the pharmacy was open and went in and bought some acetone. Spent awhile pissing about with the acetone to try get rid of the glue, it was working, but there was just too much and it was taking too long. Also didn’t want to be stuck with the bike once it got dark and there was no chance I was leaving it.

Got hold of a mate who turned up with a grinder, cut through one of the links and I managed to ride the bike home safely, albeit a bit paranoid.

Fortunately there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the bike and they didn’t glue the disc lock or ignition. Probably because I don’t use a “phaggy” reminder cable, although if I did they obviously wouldn’t have even attempted any of this Rolling Eyes

I did at one brief point consider leaving the bike and letting the tracker do it’s job, but there’s a good chance they would have damaged it trying to move it and they likely wouldn’t have caught anyone anyway.

Assume they were expecting me to leave it there so they could work overnight/weekend in peace. At least I’m off work anyway for awhile, because I’m sure they’ll be back.

Sensitive little soul aren’t you.

Maybe I should get a cruiser, at least no one will want to steal it then. Laughing won’t even need a disc lock or chain.

Buy a new lock, immediately. They do this so that you return but don't use any security, and then they either lift or wheel the bike away.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Indeed, cruisers: beloved by muggles, hated by "real manly bikers" and ignored by bike thieves as slow, ostentatious and irrelevant.

I will miss my faux cruiser Crying or Very sad
