Well that’s me had the off due to forgetting about the disc lock.
Packed London street and my VFR and me laid out in the middle of it.
To add to it a lad from work was walking past so once he’d stopped laughing he gave me a hand.

Only damage is the brake lever.

Oh dear, personally the the pennies I've spent on a "reminder" cable is about the best £2 I've ever spent on a bike Wink

and your pride

If you don't want a poncy yellow cable dangling about, find a small piece of plastic tubing for your key, works wonders.

Put the tube onto the bike key when the disc lock is on and on the disc lock key when riding simple swap.

Prevents you from putting the key into the ignition when the disc lock is on.

Exactly what I do; never failed me - an excellent trick. Or at least I did, until I got my current ride with its poxy keyless ignition Rolling Eyes

Got the idea off someone on here and couldn't remember who, was probably you tbh Thumbs Up works a treat.

Fitted a roadlok now, which means just have to carry the pin rather than an actual lock, it locks the disc completely which means no movement at all, so if you try take off with it on it just stalls.

Still use the plastic tube as a reminder anyway as it's so simple/easy.

I like the sound of that!

Along the lines of your "reminder tube" you can get cheap fake keys with a "Don't forget to remove the disc lock!" keyfobs but I always figure they'll get nicked by kids if you're out and about. Fine idea at home though.

The poncy reminder cable acts as a theft deterrent as well. Used one for years.
That said, my disc lock is an £8 ebay job with an alarm that doesnt work anymore Rolling Eyes

You mean aside from the actual disc lock?
If I had known I'd have just bought a cable instead.

Sure the thieves tremble in the little boots when they see one. Rolling Eyes

No, you carry on putting that phaggy bit of tube over your key. I bet you have a see through lunch box too, to remind you if you're going to work or going home Rolling Eyes

Yup been there done it. I was lucky in that I was using my feet to push the bike backwards whilst sat on it.
Nothing broken, just pride. I'd left the coiled yellow string in the bike shed..

Been there, twice Embarassed

Don't use it anymore, oddly I've never forgotten to remove the chain before riding off.

You do realise you’re mocking me for the exact same thing that you do?

I mean it could be worse, I could be riding a cruiser.

Does your little yellow ribbon match your tassles and chaps?

Always put the disc lock on the back of the disc just below the caliper, not the front. That way you cannot get up any momentum if you try to pull away with it fitted.

You don't so much "ride" a cruiser... you are gently and stylishly conveyed to your destination. Although now I'm thinking the comfy seat is for the benefit of arseless chaps Thinking

done it once, was lucky not to drop the bike or warp the disc. I found if you put the lock as close as you can to the brake caliper you cant go far enough to forget, bike moves an inch and it stops.

And I do use a reminder now.

If you put it on the back wheel, you won't fall off even if you do forget about it, you'll just do a very short skid.

Why are people hating on reminder cables? I cant say I've ever been so insecure in myself that I've worried people might think a bit of yellow cable to remind me the lock is there is "faggy". Way less effort than a random bit of plastic tube on your key you have to remember to carry around and not lose.

Remember: reminder cables are for everyone's benefit! If the thieves forget to smash off the disc lock if the police ever recover it there's a mangled brake to fix too Wink

I'd take 2 mins to steal a bike with a disk lock. Thieves would be faster.

Whoosh - it so isn't! I don't know why I'm arguing here about a piece of tube(!) but the whole point is that the bit of tubing is always plonked on either the ignition key or the disk lock key - it's never off or lost. You move it from one key to the other. That's exactly why it's such a good system!

Ah now see that makes slightly more sense, I didnt think of working it like that swapping between the ignition/disclock key. I can see the concept behind it.

Id still rather use a reminder cable though.
