Any advantage to either? White shows up a bit better perhaps during fitting....

I use a bucket of white paste. I didn't even know there was black tyre paste tbh. Maybe for people trying to hide the mess.

I wouldn't use silicone spray. Not on a tubed tyre anyway. If the tyre shifts round on the rim, it'll rip the valve out and explosive decomression will ensue.

If you use soap in quantity, it's good practice to hose as much off afterwards as you can. Once silicone is on, it's hard to get rid of.

I use green soap.

I normally use washing-up liquid, but wondered about the "proper" paste.

I've used white tyre paste while working at a shop, never tried black.

Did the job and make slipping the tyre on the rim a lot easier.

Needs wiping off once the tyre's on the rim and has been inflated so the tyre is seated properly otherwise will hardened and can be an absolute bitch to get off (not a big deal on home bikes, suppose, but was for new ones).

We used a brush like this to apply it (same style, more robust).

Would take a lot of tyre changing to get through a tub.
