When I download a picture or want to attach a file, I've an external hard drive that for some reason slows the operation down. I select save and the PC freezes for a few seconds then the external drive makes a 'CLICK' and then the PC springs into life.

WHY? the external drive is a 2TB powered USB 3 drive that is fairly new and works flawlessly. I've tried in 3 or 4 USB ports.

what mpd said.... when you go to access the file system the O/S does a quick scan of all the drives - just to get its bearings - and that's when any sleeping drives get a prod.

Thank you. That has now sorted the issue, top man. I'll get an SSD at some point but in the meantime no more lag.

Cheers. Thumbs Up
