Managed to change 7 of the 8 before, this last one had a nut welded to it twice and snapped off both times, there was just enough thread on it to do up the collar. Now the thread is too damaged to use, so it needs to come out.

Its right behind a frame spar so I cant just cut it and drill it without removing the engine....

Ive tried a lot of heat, cutting a slot into the end and going at it with a impact driver but no luck. Mole grips again no luck.

Worth trying to drill in at a shallow angle and use a extractor bit?

Otherwise wheel it to a welder/call mobile welder and keep trying that route?

When you get another nut welded on don't just stick a spanner on and pull like buggery.
I've found 'Working' siezed bolts a bit first can help.
ie moderate tightening and loosening before trying in anger
and spraying with ACF50 type jollop wont do any harm either.

Also applying torque at 90 degrees to the axis of the stud can avoid snapping
more then going at it from say 45 degrees.
I've even snapped wheel bolts making this mistake.

Nowadays I rarely use much torque when installing
exhaust studs and use lashings and lashings of copperslip.
the manifold nuts will pull them tight and if they do come out with the nut
when removing the manifolds later, so what?
It's a lot less arse ache then siezed, snapped studs.

Yep, this. Get it glowing bright.

If you can't get to a welder put a 10mm nut over it so it's touching the head then get a blow torch or two on it and heat it until it's glowing bright yellow, literally as hot as you can make it. Get a small hammer and whilst it's soft tap the top over 90 degrees so it bends over the nut. Let it cool then put a spanner over the bent end and turn it loose. If it snaps off go find a welder and weld that nut on, again with plenty of heat down the middle.

Don't even think about using an extractor.

Victory!

Got very lucky, cleaned it all up as best I could. Called out a mobile welder and we got it first try. Thankfully the thread is perfect inside, got very lucky!

Cheers for the advice fellas!

Use brass nuts when you put it all back together. When you come to take them off in a few years, they won't muller the studs. Worst case, the nut rounds off its threads.
