Hi,
Looking to purchase a Yamaha and was looking for some tips and advice please.
I have attached a link to the bike I may possibly go for but would like if someone could pass some advice on pros and cons of this particular bike it has low mileage and still in warranty.

A mate’s missus had one of those.
It was good for 70 at a push , allegedly , or so they told me.
It never gave them any trouble, or they never said anything about it going boing!
It always looked nice.

In the end , it’s a 125 four-stroke single cylinder bike.
It’ll do the same as all the other four stroke singles.
But you do have the comfort of support from a dealer network (Spares etc).

Someone will be along soon to tell you to by a cheaper bike and go for a full license ASAP.
Someone will along soon to tell you it’s shit because it doesn’t do 10000mph.

I think it looks pretty good. Seems a good price... almost too good Thinking

Just remember to do all the usual HPI checks yourself. My daughter turned up a nice Fiat 500 the other day and as she was sorting out what time she could go over and take a look the guy goes:

"It's on finance till April 2020, will that be a problem?"

<click>

"Hello? Are you still there?!"

Is true, if you want it to eat its own cylinder then buy it.

If you are wanting a reliable 125, YBR.

Are we talking proven RGV250, VTR1000 and mk1 R6 levels of certain internal carnage though?

Serious tho, as I wonder how much of an unfair stick it might get hit with by being a 125 and owned by that demographic?

Maybe tell OP to buy a Suzuki GSX1100 as its only engine with internals hard enough to cope and shrug off all attempts at abuse like Chuck Norris getting socked in the mouth?

Always a stickler for an argument. Laughing I've seen 3 with severely fucked bores, and I don't work on them. I just know idiots who finance bikes.

I am interested by this, since Rieju RS3 125s share the same actual engine as the YZF-R125. Reasons for bore damage (poor design, overstressed, poor materials, poor maintenance)? I guess this could go in a more appropriate place though...

Fair assumptions, but with an engine holding only about 1litre of oil, and in a bike known to be owned by maintenance shy and people who don't know how to check the oil level, well you can see where I'm going?

Would be nice to see a good sample size of bikes that have been looked after by sticklers instead, with sensible 1000mile oil changes and a hawk eye on oil level between changes.

Bad design and poor materials are possible, but I'd need that proved to me as my mind says unlikely.

In theory the air cooled YBR with similar oil capacity should be less reliable when pushed hard and poorly maintained.

The one real difference between the YZF motor and its rival 15bhp liquid cooled lumps is that its undersquare bore x stroke. But it makes its power at lower rpm than the other motors and doesn't need to rev as high.

Good price. I bet its ob sale because the owner has just passed their test. I had the WR 125 and it was a great bike and that engine is the full 15HP so that little bit more abke than cheaper 125s out there.
