Hello and welcome.
Enlighten us as to your dilemma with a bit more detail if possible as there is a wealth of helpful people here able to offer their two penny bit.
But without detail you’ll get cast aside.
Regards.

Yes. Do you want to know how to do it, where to buy the bits, to have one off someone here, or get someone here to do the job?

OK, it’s a 1999 model which needs a new barrel, piston and cylinder head. I’ve got a decent cylinder head from eBay and made the tools to extract the camshaft and smell rocker shafts. The following would be helpful, where is the mark on the cylinder head casing to align cam wheel with, and also the valve clearances for inlet and exhaust. Yam parts are astronomical prices so hoping to buy a barrel from eBay either a decent used one or a kit one with barrel , piston , gaskets etc for app £190 ish. Trying to post pictures but cant get them to work. Many thanks for your replies, and I appreciate your help.

There is a maximum size for pictures uploaded as attachments. Not sure what size, but it is way smaller than any modern camera phone takes.

Just checked - the pictures need to be less than 1mbyt.

Is there a line across the wheel? If so, it might be supposed to align with the top gasket face of the cylinder head.

If there is , I won’t see this when the barrel and head are bolted down. I will try to post a small file picture, the 1999/ 2000 model is different from later models and I don’t have the data for it from yam Perth etc. I think there may be a mark on the head where the water pump casing bolts on to , but it’s mot obvious. Thanks for your replies.

You probably know this, but make damned sure you time it right. Valves hitting pistons is never pretty. Some motors can survive mistimed valves because low compression heads sometimes have enough room to avoid contact between them, but I expect that most modern engines don't.

If you can't be sure it is timed right, wait till you are sure before you try to start it up.

Yes I’ve found the manuals lib , and have used it to fix other stuff on the bike, however the cylinder head is different, I only have 2 valves not 4 . I think however the tdc mark might just be in the same position having looked a second time at the illustration. Thank You again. Just valve clearances to find.

Things like tappet clearances are normal service specifications.... you SHOULD have in the WORKSHOP MANUAL... which would also cover all sorts of other useful data you REALLY aught to have before tackling a full tear-down rebuild, like cam timing marks, cylinder head stud torque, RE-BORE limits, which I mention because if bore beyond service limits then getting it rebored is the usual remedy, not spending £200 for a new one....

Your query really begs more questions than answers... like do you have the know how to even start such a job, and if you DONT have the know-how, contained in the work-sjop manual, what on earth are you playing at talking of spending hundreds on bits off e-bay, whilst trying to dodge spending a tenner or so on a chuffing Haynes Manuel!?!?!?!?!?!?

Go buy a book..... answers so many stupid questions before you start... then get the chgu8ck off e-bay, and go find a half decent engine reconditioners in your town and price up a re-bore, before spending hundreds on new parts you probably dont need!!!

Oh.. and there is a WORKSHOP section for work-shop questions.....

Dear Teflon, thanks for your reply, not much help though, Haynes don’t do a manual for a 1999 water cooled Yamaha Majesty. Been restoring Cars , bikes for the last 30 years, and this one will be up and running in a few weeks with the help of previous posts on this site. You can’t rebore this cylinder either .
