I’ve priced around a few companies for my CBT on saturday. One guy has quoted £130 starting at 12pm and has more or less said I’ll have it on the day. The other is £32 an hour and starting at 9am and has said we may have to finish off an evening during the week without asking my availability. What your thoughts on the prices and attitudes?

£130 all kit included and bike, 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Not 12 'till 5 or by the hour. No more than 3 pupils to the instructor. Take your own packed lunch.

Both of them sound like they're talking bollocks.

My wife and daughter have both done CBTs in the past couple of years. Both were a full day (9 till 4:30 ish) . Current going rate where they did theirs is 95 on your own bike, 125 if you use their bike and kit.

There's a new place started up near me that is 130 quid (all kit provided) with a free half day continuation if you need it.

DSA guidelines state that a BT dourse should 'nominally' be 8 hours long and muat incluw I think its five 'elemsnts', ech of whiich should bee at least anh hour long, while the on road element MUSY ne at least 2 gours., that suggests that AMY course suggeted to be less than 6 hours long MUST nbe cutting xorners some-whjere....

As to course prices.. well, should be no more than 2 people per instructor on the road elemnt, trhey cqn have #i cant remember if its 4:1 or 6:1 on the playground, but some-ione still needs to supervise students left behind whilst others on the road element. Either which way, if you have four studente per instructor, and charge £25 oee hour.... instructors are nbot going to get rich cosw they have overheads and cn only woek so many days a week and so many weeks a year, to get paid less than the price of a plumber for what is a stressful and skilled job, at the end of the day.....

And you get what you pay for....

So you rte a CBT courtse by hos much it costs... how muvh your safetyt worth, really, and how much w2ould you pay for a crash hat thats good for ONE crash you do have where training is supposed to be know how to help you avoid having them cr4shes to start with?

As Evil, friom what you say doesn't sound great for wither school TBHm, ~BUT I thubk that is more ytour talk than them..... Start over and see webby todinf out what SHOULD be in a CBT and rate how much it aught cost to get worthwhile teaining for your money... 'cos thats the critical bit... nbo point paying a pennty if all you want/get is the DL196 tro valiodare L-Plate entiotlement, not learfning to make you safe on the road.....

Our CBT's cost £120 and we start at 9am and finish anywhere between 3 and 5pm depending on how fast the student picks things up.

Prices vary between schools in the area and we sit somewhere around the average. We are not the cheapest but not the most expensive.

The ratio is 4 students to an instructor on the training area but you are only allowed 2 students per instructor out on the road.

We always run 2 to 1 as doing 2 road rides is exhausting and having to leave a student hanging around for 2 hours is not good for the student.
