Added one more today:

Similar to the rawer, harder side of The Black Keys. Seen them described as a punk version, but that might be taking it a little too far.

I'm not sure about that, I do love it and I do think that, although it dates very easily, it's pretty timeless, but those two albums sum up everything about that band, until they got properly commercial.

I've never been able to decide which I prefer more, that or Ecstasy from PCaL.

Me neither, I've spent the last 20 years as an 80s specialist DJ, although I have tried to keep up with modern trends, whatever that means Wink

BTW, where do you stand on Aztec Camera?

They passed me by and going back to New Order I'm not a massive fan.
Those are the only records I have by them and the album was given to me. I saw them in 198? and they were rubbish. Sumnner's voice is crappy (and not in a good way) and Hooky's Bass sound gets on my wick pretty quickly.

Stephen Morris on the other hand is great and I love his drumming and drum programming.

Aztec Camera...Roddy Frame..Manc band...like I said they passed me by. I try to keep up too.

This is the first play and a first for me. A punk rock opera. Smile

[EDIT] It appears I must have bought a New Order album as I've got 2 copies. Laughing

I quite like some of the Monkeys' stuff. Pop/punk sort of thing, bit of spirit, which is pretty much what The Jam started out as. Always good when another generation picks up on that sort of thing Smile I like the Dirty Pretty Things too, in a similar vein. Mind you, haven't looked in a good few years to see if they got beyond two albums.
But aren't these bands now also an "older" generation? I dunno, things move so fast in the music world, it makes yer head spin Laughing

I could spend billions on more music for my collection, but feck knows how many lifetimes one would need to properly listen to it all.

I added some more rock 'n' roll to the collection last night, boosting my Little Caesar album total to five. Roadhouse style stuff, but one of the better bands in that mould imo.

Random play hitting a lot on this tonight:

https://img.discogs.com/zlfd6mb6ehGupmTgVIYJFVGh82s=/fit-in/600x600/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-1208022-1328398444.jpeg.jpg

That's about as jazzy as I go, and only then cos it's some sweet musicianship, guitar and sax. Dad liked jazz, and I couldn't stand most of it - bunch of guys playing different instruments to different tunes with different rhythms all at the same time Laughing

Don't ever say that to his face, you're likely to get that Strat smashed over your head!

He's from East Kilbride and about as Scottish as they come.

I liked them because I was getting a bit bored with all that crashing and clanging that characterised post punk, or the kind of synth pop that seemed to owe more to electronic engineering than music.

Here was this kid (I think he was 16 when they started to become noticed) who could really play and it was quite nice to hear a bit of acoustic guitar in amongst the Rolands and Fairlights.

Ahh he'll be an old(er) fart than me. Bet I could ave him.

I was wrong but happy I didn't resort to googling where they hailed from (is that an oxymoron).

Back then (and currently) I listened to stuff outside of the timeframe/trend so didn't suffer the likes of Tear for Fears et al.

Just not enough hours in the day to catch all the bazzin bands during that era. Plus the months we spent in crappy rehearsal studios trying but mostly failing to get our own shizz together.

Even without the rose tint it was a vibrant time for live music and mostly affordable n all.

This still plays okay and has that dash of acoustic guitar you mentioned.

I am, I particularly like his work with the Stranglers and Human League, but I can't spend all my time listening to that stuff, which was what all my mates were doing at that point.

We had a thing about buying each other albums for birthdays and I was always the odd one out, because I wanted things by people like Aztec Camera and Shakatak, rather than the Buzzcocks.

Amongst other music of this sort. Got a new pair of headphones and I must say, Sony headphones were just made for hip hop, electro and house. I don't like WestBam, but they did make this song better. Not that the original is any unlistenable.

https://img.discogs.com/jY4fyYrexcSJ9ms3sNAYmWWjwRc=/fit-in/600x602/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-99510-1414990243-6963.jpeg.jpg

EDIT: Speaking of a very good headphones performance, I can't forget to mention Dynamix II. The Bass Planet album sounds just amazing, especially the Feel the Groove track.
