 |
|
So today I was looking at the wiring for my tracker. I need ground, battery positive (i.e. always on) and switched positive (i.e. on with ignition.)
There's a 2 pin "option" connector inside the headlamp with switched positive and ground (meant for USB chargers and the like) and I did think of using that plus a wire direct from the battery. However, browsing through the service manual there's a mysterious 8-pin "option" connector under the fuel tank.
The wires are labelled: FSR + B, IG, GND, MR + B, MR GND.
MR + B seems to be main power via a 30A fuse. MR GND just goes to Frame Ground as does GND (but to a different Frame Ground on the wiring diagram.) IG comes from the ignition switch and FSR + B is another live feed but this is via a separate 30A fuse for the ABS.
I would imagine it's present on most modern Hondas but certainly all the current variants of the 500 twin engine.
I think I can use IG, MR + B and MR GND for my tracker but before I do does anyone know what this connector is actually for? ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

So looking at the various connectors under the fuel tank there's a mixture of Econoseal and... whatever the other connector style is! As I have an 8-pin plug and socket in Econoseal I'm going to de-pin and replace the Honda thing but keep the wiring order the same.
The main differences between the two are mere fractions of a millimetre - so annoying!
Got as far as depressurising and removing the tank and de-pinned the original before the rain started
<addendum> It always starts with "disconnect your battery earth" and when you're pissing about with current carrying connectors this is especially true.
