What's going on here?
My laptop has taken to producing massive static when I play (for example) video clips. I can't really watch anything on it because it hisses so loudly. And it does not seem to stop, until I turn off the offending video. Even then it takes a few seconds to stop.

But it also does it when I insert a USB plug to charge my phone - but only randomly, when I move the phone, and the lead seems to pick up some connection, it hisses for a few seconds and then stops again.

What the actual fuck is going on?
Does the computer have teh bad AIDS?
How to fix, please (if easy)
(if not, then what new part do I have to buy for some brainbox to put in there for me?)

Maybe feedback from a mic or other input?

TBH if it was that you'd probably notice it with headphones too Sad

My money's is on something internal has worked it's way loose from when you dropped it Wink

As it works ok with headfones it may be a dirty contacts in the headphone socket
as the signal out from the soundchip/amp get diverted to either speakers or fones using changeover contacts at this location.

Squirting some switch cleaner in the plug hole( £3.99 from halfrauds)
and pushing/pulling the plug in and out few times while it's all wet might help.

(y'see? it doesn't always have to be filthy innuendo here y'know)

If it doesn't help it might be an internal dry joint or loose plug
and that means it's take the bugger apart time.
£3.99 for can of contact cleaner wont be wasted as it's handy stuff to have about for all manner of things anyway

The small speaker(s) are normally mounted underneath and is liable to pick up ferrous partials(steel, iron) because it has a small permanent magnet in it's base, so if your able to remove the speaker and clean out the speaker
