Hi folks.

I'm used to DIY car work but not so much bikes. I've had a read through the haynes manual for my XSR900 and am slightly confused by the schedule.

Every four years: Fit new brake hoses? Do people really do this?

Every three years : New coolant

Every two years : Fit new brake master cylinder seal.

It does seem a little OTT for a bike that I do 1,500 miles on a year! Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Now my other query is that the service schedule is based on mileage, Oil every 6000, Oil filter & sparks every 12000, air filter 24000 etc. Bearing in mind my low annual mileage, should these be done sooner or based on a time interval as well? I appreciate oil becomes less effective with time and so will do that annually but what about the other stuff?

Ride safe everyone and thanks in advance.

In the schedule is should have limits for mileage and time. Work on the basis of one service a year minimum.

Brake hoses - no, no-one replaces them after four years. Maybe after 20. Usually end up getting braided lines at some point anyway.

Coolant and brake fluid both lose their effectiveness with time, so it is a time limit rather than a mileage limit. The master cylinder seal is probably just done with the brake fluid change.
