Untill last Friday I did not know a Cd250 existed, I saw it advertised and offered to buy it over the phone, fortunately the owner stood by his word despite much better offers than his asking price and I collected it the next day.

Its a 1989 bike, 10400 miles and stored for the last 12yrs by its owner, its totally original. I have given the bike a quick clean and its chrome for 30yrs old is amazing as is the paintwork, I intend to restore this back as close to new condition as possible within a reasonable budget.

The shopping list.

-new tyres and tubes, its still sat on its original
-new battery
-overhaul the brakes, front caliper sticking slightly
- some paint will be required

the usual oil/filters/plugs will be changed, something that I need help with is identifying the correct paint code, the tank has a mark on it and I want it painted professionally, any advice on how to find this would really be appreciated

According to RS paints, that colour is called Space Blue.

You can order paint directly from them, or any decent automotive paint supplier should be able to mix it for you.

Edit: given the age of the bike, you might find it easier to find a local supplier and take a sample to them (a side panel will do) and get them to match the paint on your bike, rather than just mix it to a formula, unless you're planning on painting everything.

They were expensive bikes when they were new. As I recall you could get a CB1 for about the same price.

Basically the last gasp of the superdream. I think they put some real effort into the build quality if not the performance.

There may be an official paint code sticker under one of the side panels or stuck to the rear mudguard under the saddle.

There is a 1MB size limit on images attached via the forum.

Once attached, you can open them in a new tab, copy the address then edit your post with that address wrapped in IMG tags for it to appear in the body of the text.

I had a few spare minutes today to have a look at the bike, I could smell petrol and upon removing the tank I found a couple of small rust holes, after rubbing down they leaked very well. I repaired them and continued to look, I found nine other dodgy areas and repaired them also, if I could find a good s/h tank then I would replace it but nothing can be found at the moment.
I have seen a Utube video showing an acrylic liquid poured into the tank and swirled around which claimed to seal the tank from the inside, anyone tried this method ?

Use the POR15 tank sealant system. If done properly, exactly according the manufacturers instructions, it won't come off again. The pre-flushing/etching compounds are important.

Various people sell it on ebay. You can also get it from a company called frost automotive. They do a motorcycle tank sealant pack which has enough detergent flush, acid etch and sealant to do a bike tank.

Been out for my first ride today in the sunshine, it feels great to get back on a bike after a few years, still lots of restoration work to do.

The bike feels very low geared, are they all like this ?
