I turn 16 soon and I’ve Been doing some research for a couple of weeks, and I think I’m just wanting the cheapest sack of shit money can buy that will last me a year until I can buy a real bike, and go pretty fast while it lasts, I am NOT going to derestrict it if you get my jist Wink what are some options, probably looking for something used off of eBay, and no more than £500, as long as it’s legal for a 16 year old before it’s derestricted, not that I’m going to do that...

To make a long story short, what’s the cheapest, most bang for my buck moped available? Thanks

Hondzuki Firebusa.

Or any ped will do as long as it is a decent make. For £500 expect £500 worth of moped.

So not a lot.

As in the previous thread you started. What's wrong with continuing there? Did you read my last post in it?

Oh, and where are you, roughly?

Go and look at an old style moped, they can be found cheaply, with a bit of TLC they can provide good service, spares are cheap and you'll probably get your money back if you decide to get a bigger machine

How old? The old 16-er ones are not legal for new riders now.

Wouldn't bother personally unless there was a free one to use. When I was 16 (1989) my dad had a 50 he went to work on,
so he bunged me on the insurance for that. I clearly remember the whole years policy full comp for us both being £55. Laughing
If I was 16 today without access to a free bike I'd just use that money I would have thrown away on a 50 to save for the
125 I really wanted. I should add my own 125 I paid off in weekly payments while I was still 16. Not over the phone
but by either getting on the ped (when Dad wasn't using it of course) or the bus when he was and going down to the bike
shop in Romford where I first saw it, it had been p-exed against something less shite. I handed over a tenner here and a twenty
there until I had dragged together the 400 quid the shagged out CM125 without an MOT cost. Needless to say I paid
it off as quickly as possible and it was sat in my front garden waiting for me to turn 17. So keen was I to move up to (legally)
ride a geared bike I threw literally any sum of spare folding cash at it. Which meant lots of entries on my payment card, and lots
of trips to the bike shop. Laughing Sometimes just to pay a fiver off. Embarassed

A cheap one, if a 50cc machine suits your requirements. I.e you live in a town or city and do 90% urban mileage on 30/40 mph roads.

Don't be one of these idiotic arrogant fuckers that lives out in the sticks and has to ride 20miles on NSL roads to get anywhere else, on an unsuitable machine that's not fit for the job. These the law says I can ride it anywhere I like so I will types are fools and are putting themselves and others in unnecessary hazardous situations by doing so.

You wouldn't drive 20+miles between towns in a 25mph tractor on very busy national limit single and dual carriageway roads just because your licence says you have the right to do so. It's beyond stupidly and arrogance!

Most 16yr olds will only want a 50cc for 1-2years, though they are useful little transport devices for city use, and some will use one long term as a simple A-B solution. Therefore even a non known brand 50cc Chinese moped assuming its maintained will likely last 2years or so, and there are used ones for under £500 that'll be more than up to job if looked after. You don't buy a 50cc bike for re-sale value or to look cool, it doesn't need to be a naff clone of a Harley or a Fireblade, a plastic scooter will do fine.

People walk. People ride horses and ponies. People go on bicycle. People use 30MPH mopeds. People drive tractors, vans, cars, lorries. Other road users know this, and if they can't handle it, they are stupid and arrogant.

A 50cc should last longer than 2 years as you say if sensibly maintained. The Boy's Kisbee, for instance, which is now a 30MPH or a 40MPH+ machine depending only on where the switch is positioned, should get £450-500, after he bought it about 1 1/2 years ago for £600.

Free is always good! Ask around friends and relatives, you might get lucky and find something forgotten in a garage somewhere.

50cc scooters and 125cc are mostly treated as "consumables" these days. Find the cheapest thing with an MoT and just remember to check the oil regularly.

Just buy the shittest, scruffiest, tattiest scoot that you can put an MOT on. It will be less likely to get nicked, it still won't matter when you have thrown it down the road for the sixth time and it won't matter when the plod seize it after you do(n't) derestrict it.
