I'm considering buying a 2010 FZ1 Fazer. Any opinions on this model would be much appreciated.

Love mine - only problems when touring are the limited tank range - circa 130 miles, and the arse numbing seat although there are some options to help this (padded cycling shorts under pants help).

Maintenance wise I do approx' 7000 miles a year and it gets a yearly service and a set of sport/tour tyres, only issue has been the thermo-wax unit for the cold start/auto choke thingamajig which usually has to be taken out and lubed after a few weeks in the shed over winter.

It came with an Akrapovic pipe (Yep noisy), and my only mods have been the usual dark screen (Puig DB - not much improvement), HEL brake lines (bling), Givi pannier racks (going rusty), Oxford heated grips (still work), power socket (useful when camping) and various camera mounts (for epic ride footage).

I've had the bike almost 7 years and it's done 46000 miles, and still looks pretty good after a wash and polish (if I don't look at the rusty rear shock spring), apart from a lump of Scottish granite through the radiator it's never let me down ....

I have the naked version 2010 and I agree with Ash, the range ain't great and the seat isn't comfortable on long trips but other than that it's been a solid beast.

Lacks some low down grunt but ultimately if you need to move fast it can do it. There's a fault with the alternator magnets coming loose which Yamaha made a replacement part for, this time sealing the magnets. I'd highly recommend getting that swapped if you plan on keeping it long term as it can leave you stranded if the magnets fall out.

It's the Gen 1's that need the exup adjusted/serviced.

The Gen 2's are good bikes but as above - the fuel range isn't good, the seat isn't comfy and the standard screen was bit meh, but they can get a real shift on if you want them to.

I recently bought a Gen 1 Thou that's been Ivanised and has some good spec including Nitron rear shock, gear indicator, scorpion end can and it is a pleasure to ride. The standard seat is comfortable, it returns good mpg and handles well. Prior to this I had an MT10 and before that an MT09 Tracer and before that a couple of FZ1's.

When I sold the 10 last month I knew I'd miss most things about it especially the noise from it's cross plane engine, de cat and scorpion end can. I tried a few other bikes but they weren't for me so started looking for a late FZ1 with decent mileage and hopefully with the full fairings. Most had too many miles or were rough for the prices been asked.

I had a look at a Gen 1 Fazer and while I appreciate they may look a bit dated and marmite to some, I found I actually quite liked them. After having a go on one I knew I'd own one.

Anyway. Back on topic for the Gen 2 FZ1. I never had any problems at all and servicing was easy enough to do yourself. Parts a cheap and the only reliability issue I had was a flat battery but since then I have trickle charged all my bikes with an optimate. I have heard some comments about the rotor breaking down although didn't experience it myself.
