Ho hum

Thanks to this I need a new rear tyre (almost certainly)

Fortunatly managed to pump it up at the garage near work, and again on the way home so it got me back

All the best

Well, thats the last thing it provided. Handling was, errmm, interesting in the short hop to the garage (with virtually no air in it). On the way home it lost about 10psi in 20 miles, maybe a touch more, when I stopped to fill it up again.

All the best

Sounds like the front tyre on zimm's zxr Laughing

I presume it was in the side, so you can't repair it.

Hi

Actually fairly close to the middle, but it is a screw so likely to have torn a hole (so not repairable). Also it is a ZR rated tyre which most places wont repair (I think it is not actually legal to repair one)

All the best

Apparantly the 'mushroom' type repairs are pretty good... Vicky didn't have any trouble with hers and I know of someone that had their 010 repaired and has taken it on track daysd after!

I believe they actually enlarge the hole a bit anyway, so it might be worth checking if it can be done.

Sure, new tyres are nice. Pity about the credit card. Want to get them down as I fancy spending too much money on a digital SLR camera

All thebest

Well, I want a better scanner but waiting for them to come down in price. Decent sheet feeder would be nice, but I really want one capable of at least 2500dpi x 2500dpi optical, which should just about be OK for scanning in microfiche.

First digital camera we had was a Sony DSC F505V. Dirty great lense on the front. Worked for just over a year and then died. Jessops quote to fix it was about £100 more than they wanted for a 2nd hand one and only about £100 less than the camera had been new. Replaced that with a little Canon Powershot A10, which I like. Good for taking pics for online use and with a 128mb card at 640x480 it will take about 1400 pictures, and the batteries are AA size rechargables and last ages (a week and 250+ photos this year on holiday).

Trouble is I fancy something to learn how to take pictures of moving things (you know, the things with 50% of their wheels on the ground). Sigma have just launched a digital SLR for £1299, but then you need the lenses and everything. No sign of Pentax doing a digital SLR so cannot use the old lenses we have already.

All the best

Keith

I *was* looking at getting a Canon D30/D60 as I've allready got an EOS + lens's, until I saw the price Sad.
I think I'll stick with getting a film scanner at some point as the prices have come down a bit... if I can be bothered I've got some film-proccessing stuff somewhere as well.

Hi Keith,

I took the plunge and spent silly money on the Nikon D1X and must say i'm very pleased with it. The image output is incredible. It's uses Nikon lenses so you can use any of there lenses you wish. From an old camera if you have one. The only downside to having all this quality is the size and weight of these pro camera's, but you get used to it. Pic below.

The only downside with the new digitial SLR and old lenses is the amount of manual work you need to do to take pictures. If your a picture taking buff that's fine as you probably prefer all manual settings anyway.

With the new lenses they are all computerised and motorised. Silent wave motors that zoom and focus with great accuracy. You can of course still select manual settings if you wish but having the automatic point and shoot option on such a high end camera is really great.

The only time i use manual settings is to fool the camera because i want a certain kind of shot, more light, less light. faster speed and slower speed to create blur on a fast moving bike.

Probably from years of using SLR's but I do prefer to at the least have the option for manual control.... I'd definatley take manual zoom over a moterised system because you can do it a lot faster.
As far as I can work out I can't actually turn the flash on my digicam off, which seem to be taking it a bit too far.

Hi

The Sigma looks OK, spec is fairly good and it is alot cheaper than the Nikon or Canon equivalents

The little Canon I have has a flash which you can turn off, have on red eye reduction or have on automatic. The off is very useful if you are taking pictures inside as the flash isnt powerful enough to illuminate anything more than a small area, but with the flash off it can pick up more details.

For the D30 have a look on Ebay, as they have come right down in price

All the best

Keith
