Some of you might remember a thread I'd started here asking about advice on potential sealants or glues I could use in an art project I wanted to create.
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=327778
Long story short I managed to complete it whilst learning a lot of extra skills and methods along the way. In the end I chose Sikaflex 221 as that adhesive for the glass to metal.
This was the finished item:

Not the best of images but you get the idea.
Anyway, I've had heaps of praise for this one including from actual artists (we network) who all do their own random things.
I spotted a competition poster at Metal Supermarkets when I was visiting one day - a competition that covered the UK, Canada and the USA. Each one having its own grand prize winner. I've just won the grand prize for the UK in this competition by entering the butterfly artwork I'd made!!
To say I'm shocked is an understatement. For me these metal sculptures I make are simply ideas and things I use as distractions when my mind is working a little hard. They calm me basically.
The prize I've won is a plasma cutting system worth around £1600 in the UK.
Some here will know I learnt my metalworking skills at a coal mine as a blacksmith/welder. Mines closed and I was unable to continue in metalworking but I still hung on to those skills at home in a way which keeps me sane. A distraction of sorts.
I seriously encourage anyone who fancies learning welding/smithing skills to just do it. Lots to learn and then comes the practice. It will come in handy - even in these days of technology. ____________________ CCM 404 DS |

I really like that.
My one observation (I'm not calling it a criticism because it isn't) is that it would look more delicate with smaller framing where it supports the glass if that is possible on your next one. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
