Hi All

In the market for a decent bike tracker. Was thinking of getting the Datatool one but a friend pointed me in the direction of this one:

https://monimoto.com/

Has anyone used this one and have any feedback?

What trackers are people using?

Cheers Mr. Green

Bike Trac is the only one I'd consider if I wanted a tracker.

Bike Trac successes on BCF:

Not to start a new subject about similar things - does anyone know what needs to be done when you buy a bike with the Datatool fitted on it? Can't really find anywhere where you register the product etc

I got a note through about that for my Rebel. If you're buying a second hand bike and it has DataTag the previous owner should have a form to be filled in much like doing your V5.

You could try this and see what happens:

Thanks for that, will try the online form - dealership has not said anything to us when purchasing but they did seem a bit lost doing their jobs...

[1.1] If required BikeTrac Limited will attend location to use RF (VHF) in liaison with the Police. Recovery of a stolen vehicle (or other asset with BikeTrac fitted) is not currently part of the service provided. No liability will be accepted by BikeTrac Limited to recover a stolen or lost vehicle or asset, nor will BikeTrac Limited be liable to reimburse the owner should their vehicle not be recovered, or if it is damaged.

[1.3] Subscribers must not attempt to recover a stolen vehicle (or any other asset fitted with BikeTrac). Subscribers must contact their local Police authority who will decide whether to utilise the BikeTrac system as part of their recovery and/or criminal investigation efforts.

Basically you pay someone a lot of money to let them tell you your bikes stolen and give you the location, but you can't go and get it until the police decide if they want to attempt recovery or not. Probably not even worth the cost of scrap once the scrotes ad be done with it.

Loose the cost of your bike, expensive unit, subscription cost etc.

The monimoto is ok but not grand. Probably the most portable cheap-er option on the market as it is. Not "small" by any means (see it in person) but would rather loose £150 on a unit like that than x2 (or more) on BikeTrac.

the thing with a tracker is I simply want it as I am always within 5mins of my bike at work, gym or home so if it detects movement and calls or texts me then I can go deal with it

You will be able to track your bike, just keep in mind police will not help you with recovery if it's inside a garage/property.

In that case you could go with a pager alarm like this:

https://www.motorbikealarm.co.uk/shop/advanced-v3-motorbike-alarm-and-immobiliser-system/

Helpful if you can give chase immediately versus a standard alarm.

Sort of is, sort of isn't.

There is no compulsory subscription. We only take a monthly fee of €3 (~$3.5) for GSM connectivity. This is billed annually and payment is conducted via the Monimoto App. If you choose to use your own SIM card, you won’t pay us a cent!

In general – you will be charged a 3 EUR (~$3.5) monthly fee (paid for the whole year in advance, as a 36 EUR (~$42) annual fee). You will receive two notifications before the end of the free GSM service period (which is 2 months). When GSM service expires – you will be able to renew your account from the Monimoto App.

Yes, you can! But consider these advantages of the default SIM card:
Our SIM card works with at least two GSM operators in each country (up to six operators in some countries). This guarantees continuous GSM network coverage throughout the entire country territory.
With our SIM card, you will be notified before the account is empty so you can top it up in time. We will not be able to do that with other cards.
Our SIM card has APN settings sorted while others might require you to enter APN details during the pairing process.

Just so you're aware.

Also keep a couple of CR2032 battiers at home for the fob.

If you want to use your own SIM to try out then by all means chuck in a PAYG one for fun...

However, long term you want something that is a) multi-network roaming and b) the credit doesn't expire ever (unless you use it up ofc!)

Burglar alarm SIMs are well suited to the task. Just need one that's data-orientated rather than voice minutes.
