I see your point, Ste, there's this going along the river:

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.404247,-0.3078465,3a,75y,196.75h,84.6t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8Yf9ICpBiSGGHi2-wdk1Lw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

And then you hit a bus stop in the middle:

And then it just peters out:

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4030528,-0.3078477,3a,75y,231.03h,67.55t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sP2YBxuvIl3Z4YYC388cROw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Box ticking exercise, allocated funds burnt Evil or Very Mad

It reappears at random points further down the road and goes from pavement to being a cycle path, from cycle path to being a pavement, repeat a few more times and by then I was bored.

Someone thought that would be a good idea, someone else designed it, someone else approved the design and there will have been however many other people involved in the bureaucratic process from the initial idea to the point of assigning resources to go and paint lines on the pavement.

Those people can now say they've been involved in adding xyz meters of cycle paths to Kingston on Thames to help the Borough meet whatever target they set themselves. All in all it's a very good job everyone, money well spent. Rolling Eyes

Whereas I just agree that planes that disintegrate over the outback is good value for money....

And I bet not one of them rides a bicycle with any regularity. Nor were any cyclists or cycle groups consulted at the design stage.

No bike lanes, no bus lanes, no road markings, no traffic lights.... no pavements! Let the chips fall where they may Smile

Cheap to maintain and everybody figures it out in their own way. Yes, deaths will go up but it's mostly a filtering exercise for the gene pool Twisted Evil
