Hey all

I've had historic charging issues with my Triumph Daytona 650 (2005). An ongoing saga. So just over a year ago I fitted a volt meter to the dashboard so I could keep an eye on it, after I replaced both the regulator and stator.

Last week, the voltage started reducing rapidly from the usual 14.3 volts down to 10 volts and the dials going on/off. My heart sank (for the 3rd time in ownership).

I took the cover off to inspect the stator and yes, once again, the copper has started to soot-up.

I have ordered a replacement stator again but my question is; given that my volt meter display has constantly been recording 14.3 volts right up until it recently started dropping, is it most likely a stator fault as opposed to a regulatory problem? Would value a second opinion.

My logic suggests, given the voltage was not spiraling out of control (regulator issue), the root cause is most likely a poor stator which has over-heated as opposed to a shoddy regulator (another £100 to replace!). I could be wrong?

Cheers, Andy

That sounds logical.

I would be inclined to test you stator and reg/rec as per the many vids on you tube. If your stator has gone and reg/rec is ok, carry on using it.

Thanks mate, will check the reg over the weekend and fit the new stator. Appreciate another opinion. A real pain in the a*rse this bike, a love/hate relationship....!
