Long ride. This is perfect riding weather for me - not too hot/cold/bright/dismal. Followed Haynes manual's recommended technique to realign forks (the sort of technique some "qualified engineer" might scorn. But if it works... Death-wobble when the handlebars are released at about 50mph has now left the building. Now tracking true, more or less. Now wondering what's next in the pipeline for my project bike. Tinkering is an addiction.

Washed vomit off it after a woman started blowing chunks onto the floor / pavement / bike.

That was my fun ride, 170 miles with a friend around Mid Wales this morning.
My commute, another 170 miles but this time predominantly motorway and dual carriageway, was dispatched with the speediest time so far.
I’d like to say that wasn’t my fault and I fell in with a bad crowd on the motorway, but even to my own ears it sounds a lame excuse. Maybe Its me who’s the bad crowd?
Nah, that can’t be it!

Rode to the countryside
Rode about the countryside a bit
Rode back to town

I quite like the countryside, I think.

Yeah.
If I was "driving" there, we would be talking about cars.
If I was cycling there ... I'd be dead from a heart attack Laughing

He wants to go pillion somewhere, to a rally or something.
I'm so not up for that.
Too old, too fat.

Plus, there's the possibility of riding with a pack somewhere, anyway.
hellkat is not a fan, doesn't play nicely with others, is out of practice.
Rather be on me own bike and meet ya there sort of person.

It's all I can do to ride behind him when there's just two of us Laughing
But so far, due to there being no fishing involved, its been Quite Nice.

I went past a river and everything, the Avon I think.
Thatched cottages*, green lush fields, the whole nine yards.
Even the odd historical monument.

And I saw a grouse.
Had a few drinks with the chaps.
Twice.

Nothing I shouldn't be doing.
Well, okay ... Shifty

* although technically these don't count, as I erratically already spend time in one when visiting Ralphie and his adorable mum.

Nothing. On either of them. This is almost unprecedented.

Instead, I put 150 miles on the Viffer doing a bit of a North Wales loop.

^ crazy mofo.

Changed oil pump drive gear, which a few RC8 owners have had fail. Original parts before 2010 were cast and had holes drilled for added lightness.

Replacement is solid, peace of mind mainly, as I was in the clutch area because there's some snatchiness in the power delivery from standstill.

One of the clutch spring retaining bolts was a bit loose, which could have been expensive. Clutch booster ramps look worn but not excessively so.

Will make do for now as part is on back order.

Shit myself after bolting it all back together and refilling the oil. There was an air lock or dry pump so there was no oil circulating on firing it up. After a couple of secs waiting for the oil light to go out it was screeching so shut it straight off. Topped up some more (2 stage fill) and after firing it up it sounded normal again Very Happy

Yet to fully test, but all that along with oberon slave cylinder has hopefully improved things and I'll be able to launch the thing away from traffic lights as it should be rather than nervously hoping and feathering the clutch like a noob until above 30mph.

Another 100+ miles around a different bit of N.Wales, so I cleaned and lubed the chain afterwards.

Fitted a new gearchange lever rubber. This one should last a bit longer than the last one, which was a cheapie. I'll never learn. The new one is a genuine NOS item, 6 quid from the bay. Full price around 16-18 quid. Result.

Fitted the two washers that were missing on the oil return system for the dry sump.
Leaving the bash plate off for now as the securing bolts are a bit rubbish and need renewing/tapping or something. Will do that another day.
Poured oil into the reservoir tank and waited.. and waited.. and waited. It's taking ages to get down there to the oil pump (had drained everything out) so I've given up. Will look tomorrow.

Fitted a voltmeter to keep an eye on the reg/rec performance. Works really well and isn’t too bright either.

It’s on the back for some odd reason. Turns out it’s quite helpful.

Poor obs Laughing

Rc8 has marked its territory with a little widdle of oil on the garage floor.
Coming from gear position sensor, obviously one of the sizes of o-ring that I didn't already have in the two sets I've got.

£4.50 after V.A.T. & delivery, piss take. Not leaking no more though.

Assembled the paddock stand so now I can get it up the rear Embarassed Very Happy

Changed the plugs on the CBF.... what a chore. Rolling Eyes

To do plugs you need to remove:

- Front R/L fairing
- Side R/L fairing
- F/R seat
- Ignition coils and crankcase breather hose

O.E.M tool is a must, but doesn't make getting to the plugs any easier.

Old plugs were iridium, no surprise. Last person copper grease the threads of the plugs which I always thought was a big no no.

Anyway.. seems to have made the problems I had go away, for now. Learnt a bit about the bike and a job I wont be doing in a hurry again. Laughing

To do plugs you need to remove:

Don't buy a VFR. Add seat and tank to that list, along with loosening the seat side fairings, to get to the rear plugs.

Seat off*, tank off, disconnection of various modules and hoses and finally the air box with its 400 bolts before I can get at my plugs.

*Shouldn't really get a mention as it's just a turn of the ignition key but a list is a list.
Plus it's all getting a bit Monty Python, so...
