Hi Guys

Got my hands on a 2004 ER5 with 8k miles. Recently changed air/oil and sparks and she was running fine for about 30 miles.

Just got on it today and noticed she's underpowered. When I open the throttle it is sluggish and not going very well. It does seem noisier so I'm wondering if it's the spark plugs - I assume that's the best place to start.

I have another question too. When I was changing the plugs I noticed that one of the cables going into the spark plug cap could be pulled out. I pushed it back in and all was fine, but is that normal? I thought the cable and the cap were fixed/attached?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Screw the cap back onto the lead.

Thanks. Double checked them and both fine. However, I removed the LHS spark plug and bike would start and spark plug would spark against engine. When I replaced it and removed RHS plug, the plug sparked but the engine wouldn't start.

Latest updated. Added some treatment to the petrol and left the bike running for a few hours.

Before I did that, it would rev fine till around 4k revs and then "stall" and then surge on to higher revs.

After a few hours - it now seems to rev nicely right up to 8k rpm

Any ideas what it may be? Some dirt in the carb?

Thanks

""""""and left the bike running for a few hours."""
That`s crazy, Rolling Eyes
Ok you have added a more volatile fluid and got better results so get the carb/s sorted and fit an inline fuel filter. Smile

Thanks jaffa90! I've got it booked in next week. In terms of a fuel filter - any recommendations?

More than likely. When I got our first one it was doing pretty much the same. (Only firing on one side)
I gave the carbs a damn good clean and it's been behaving itself since then.

They will know which filter to fit, also the vacuum fuel tap needs checking as well. (maybe the first to check) Idea
