Coz the papers think Joe Public is too thick to visualise what a measurement is they convert feet tons, litres etc into other things.

So if a journalist has to include a dimension in the story does he/she have to rake through loads of books and ready-reckoners to find a physical equivalent?

The area equal to 4-1/2 football parks.
Blue Whale as long as four dbl decker buses.

A near earth object as long as 'the height of Buckingham Palace' was difficult for me to visualise
as I could never get close enough to measure from the top to the ground for comparison.

I'll make it easy for you:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/page/reg-standards-converter.html

So 50mph = 0.0007% of the maximum velocity of a sheep in a vacuum, 1500 metres = 162 double-decker buses and 14 stone = 10 adult badgers Smile
