I'd like to show pics from my phone, video, etc. on a TV. Can I just connect a micro USB to HDMI cable, or do I need some sort of extra converter?

More accurately you need an MHL to HDMI cable. And it does help if the phone supports MHL!

What phone is it?

Hmm, "Mobile High-Definition Link". I doubt it, it's a Umidigi A3 Pro.

Edit: This is bloody silly. Two "Does my 'phone support MHL" apps tried. One says yes, one says no.

Edit: I have e-mailed Oohmedigi and asked.

I know nothing of Chromecast. I wondered whether the app I want to use was Cc enabled.

However, a brief look says that I can cast the whole screen, which will do the job.

Any recommendations for a reasonable device? It would be nice if it were up-to-date, but needs to work with a non-smart TV with an HDMI port, which I assume is all that's needed.

When on holiday the TV had USB, so just use USB lead from phone & find photos using remote.

I'm not wildly techy , but can get most things sorted , eventually , by stubborness, rather than ability.

My mate recommended a Chromecast to share just about anything on an android phone . It's so easy - youtube -picture- movies and various i players. Really good resolution too. It works by linking to your home wifi so phone or other device>>>> wifi router>>>> chromecast.
The chrome cast plugs into the TV USB.
I've tried using the card from the phone into a little USB adapter into the telly, it worked for pictures , but not anything else.
