I prefer my clutch lever close, or rather the biting point close. However this makes the clutch/engine (I think) clunk when I roll off the throttle instead of that nice smooth engine breaking. There may be other factors here but when I move the clutch lever so far out (it's uncomfortable) the gear changes are slightly smoother and the bike goes straight into engine breaking with no clunk.

It's a GSXR600 '13. How easy/hard is it to adjust the clutch from the other end rather than the minor adjustments at the lever end - or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Cheers

Ideally the clutch biting point should be half way through the lever's travel. If you're having trouble operating it at that spot you might consider getting an aftermarket adjustable lever.

I wouldn't expect a clunking noise, what happens if you temporarily change the position.
It could be the chain or cush drive rubber blocks.

is it possible you have the clutch adjusted so that is not quite fully engaged when you are getting that 'clunk'? Maybe slipping slightly all the time and then fully engaging as the revs drop and you go into engine breaking. There can be quite a gap between where it starts to bite and fully engaged (exploited by many during slow speed manouvers).

It doesn't clunk when the clutch lever/biting point is far out (almost all the way which is uncomfortable to ride on the edge of my finger tips) but when it's closer (not even that close) it does it. Say I'm in 3rd then roll off the throttle, it clunks (and slows down) but then the engine breaking sound kicks in. It's annoying, it's a bit similar to a jerky gear change due to poor shifting but a clunk instead.

I have an ASV lever and have for months and only now does it clunk.
