How does this work? Does it change the colour of the beam or it's just the position light of some sort and the beam stays ''white''?
I used to run a yellow (3000K) high beam bulb in my ZX7R, just because it looked cool and was actually helpful in rain when it got dark outside. I can't even imagine having a red headlight, let alone blue that's the worst thing to use at night.
Well, red headlights would make it look like a train that's about to move in the opposite direction, which is kind of cool. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Tuberculosis wrote: | I've seen the likes of Bosch, Osram, Philip's, Ring etc. marketing 55w bulbs with a claimed 30% to 50% extra light output but I'm sceptical. Wattage is a measurement of energy. You can't MAKE energy out of nothing. Only convert it from one type to another. In this case electrical energy into light and heat. 55w is 55w. Only way you can get more light out of a bulb without increasing the wattage is by reducing the amount of energy that is converted into heat??? I see Chinese bulbs on ebay claiming 55w input 100w output what a joke laws of physics dictate that's not possible. |
The confusion arises because light intensity isn't actually measured in watts, but lumens. The 'wattage' refers to the power they absorb, not what they emit. In days of old, you simply bought a light bulb which used a certain amount of power, by virtue of pumping electricity through a bit of wire until it glowed brightly; and the brightness of the bulb was proportional to its power rating. But then some clever bugger invented energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs, which produced much more light than the old incandescent bulbs for the same amount of power - they were sold as say, a "20W bulb, equivalent to a standard 100W bulb". Then someone even cleverer invented LED bulbs, which use even less power, and which make the whole concept of rating bulbs with watts even more daft.
It's almost as stupid as our insistence in the UK on measuring fuel consumption in miles per gallon, despite nobody having bought fuel in gallons since the 1980s... ____________________ KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS |
