Work has told us all to log onto the Gallup website and complete the Clifton Strengths Finder. The output gets shared with the bosses and supposedly tells us what kind of role I'm suited to; team leader, director, techie..., I"m expecting "drone." Anyhow, I logged on earlier this afternoon and got through 14% of the questionnaire before deciding it was bullshit psycho-babble with as much science as astrology. I feel pressured to finish it though. Colleagues have said it was "interesting." Anyone else done this? Was it useful?

I haven't done that particular test, but I have done other psychometrics and seen the results at companies that use them.

It is BS and shows a distinct lack of ability on the part of the 'managers' that have the need to use them.

You could try and fool it, but that might be a bit futile, psychometric tests are like statistics, you can use them to prove anything you like - if they want to pigeonhole you, they will.

Sounds like the time my boss decided we should all do a Myers-Briggs test.

Backfired badly. If you don't want to hear the result, don't do the test.

When we got an American general fleet manager we started getting all this shite. Team building, pschyco analysis, stupid tests I have no idea what they were called but we had to look interested or it went against you.

Then we got diversity training. Laughing

Well, I completed it last night and I still think it's unvalidated pseudo-science. I only took a cursory glance at the output but it seemed vague. I expect the bosses have been equipped with tools to decipher the meaning and pigeon-hole each of us. By only reporting strengths and no negatives most people will read theirs, get a warm fuzzy feeling and so not criticise the methodology. Clever. Scam.
