"Rotor" seemed more appropriate - one could hardly call it a brake "disk" Brake doughnut? But then we get into proper ones having jam in the middle rather than 'murican holes
Very similar to rim brakes vs disk brakes on push-bikes with regards where the forces are going. However, the main driver for moving to disk brakes, especially on any sort of off road bike, is to keep the brake surface as far away from the muck as you can.
