hi all

is there an alternative to a pinlock visor for stopping the visor to steam up?

I ride in London so generally just ride all the time with visor open so not an issue but when it rains or really cold I like to shut it, as I breathe quite heavy I find the pinlock just stops working after a while, I was thinking something like a breath deflector type thing may work better and not bother with the pinlock?

Some ideas on preventing your visor steaming up here.

The Raleri FogStop is pretty good and maintains a seal longer than PinLocks, not tried the Respro mask myself, but here good reports for it. Anti-fog solutions are almost always a bit of a let down and/or need re-applying every couple of days.

not something that's easy to try, but the helmet itself can make a big difference, my current lid AGV (with pinlock) mists quite badly a lot of the time, my previous lid Caberg (with pinlock) very seldom misted, in fact I used it for a while without the pinlock insert and never had any issues. but sounds like mask type think might be best

Why try and reinvent the wheel?

Pinlocks aren't the miracle cure, but to be honest in certain situations nothing is. Having a clean visor helps, I find.

I imagine you mean in adverse weather (cold, rain etc) at slow speeds (filtering, under 30 mph etc)? If so then that's where visors generally will become misty as there's not enough constant airflow. Riding with it constantly cracked open, even just a little, from the moment you set off is probably the best way to prevent misting -- as, I find, once it starts its a pain for the remainder of the ride.

The helmet you have will make a difference on your experience, but I don't know that there's a "do it all" pinlock helmet, and its expensive to try and find the "one."

Could come down to the chin curtain, or if you use a touring jacket with a wind collar too.

Closing your visor once you've had it cracked open wont help as there could be small amounts of water sitting on the inside of the visor that will steam up once you lock it shut (as I say constantly cracked open a small amount helps with this).

Can get masks that velcro to the inside of the helmet.

If there's any failure on the pinlock itself then check the seal, re-fit or get a new one (if don't want a new helmet).

Pinlock actually has 3 grades I think the first is 30 then 70 then 120 which Shoei, Arai and probably few others use which is the most resistant. Coming from a Caberg 70 grade pinlock to the 120 made a noticeable difference in fog time.

However the proper fix is a fog mask like the Respro Foggy, I never ride without at this time of year. Stops my glasses and visor from getting any fog. Oh and I'm pretty certain the ProtecTint visors fog quicker than the normal variations IME of pinlock so I'd avoid them

cheers all, I think the biggest issue is 90% of my riding is stop-start london commuting so the visor doesn't get the airflow to demist, the respro foggy looks like an OK option, tbh I only ever use the visor when it rains or is very very cold (rarely) and as not riding high speed it isn't a major issue if it rains but would be nice to shut the visor without it steaming up after 2mins.

I have an old AGV helmet which came with a pinlock, it seemed to be OKish for a few months but quickly lost its shape and wouldn't hold tight against visor

Don't get your head wet.
That usually is what overwhelms the chin vent. Too much moisture to shift.
Riding during cold humid days is shite.

Less interior fog, fits your most helmets, launching 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 summer 2020, fully-funded. Can't say what it might be though.

I think we've read enough on here about the Rain Pal.

Our Final Design Is Far Cooler Than On Site.

Less interior fog, a scientific fact.
