My HP printer has decided ive owned it for too long and is putting itself into retirement. Any recommendations for a decent home printer to replace it. Its just for the occasional printout of text so doesn't need to be some super dooper photo print machine.

Cheers

Get a laser printer. Brother are ok. Mono is fine for just print. I bought one from Argos a few years ago and it's been great. Only needed to change the cartridge once so far.

That's the one I have. Never had a problem with it.

If it's only occasional, laser is the way to go. You'll never have a printhead dry up and kill the printer Wink

My father still has (cheap) laser that I bought nearly 20 years ago, and it's still plodding along, and he uses it maybe 5 times a year. If it was a inkjet I'd have replaced it 10 times by now.

Same, my father-in-law tried to print out something on his inkjet and ended up literrally launching the thing out of the window. Dusted off the Samsung laser I gave him over a decade ago... worked straight away!

Before the laser printer we had an Epson. It had a 'thing' programmed into that after X amount of prints it needed servicing by them. No way to reset the counter yourself either. The servicing would have been about 10X the printer cost. Never again Epson!!

One of the cool things about the laser printer is the print is waterproof!
If you print labels for parcels, barcodes come out lovely and clear no more running ink in the rain. Smile

I got a second hand big monochrome office laser printer four years ago. Came with a full toner cartridge. Still not used it all. Cost £60 delivered.

It's a network printer so it doesn't have to be attached to a PC, just plugs into the router and any device on my LAN can use it. Holds a whole ream of paper and does double sided printing.

Colour Brother Laser. Can't remember the model number, but it's wireless and does CDs. Unlike inkjet, it doesn't spunk half its cartridge trying to clean itself if you haven't used it for a couple of days.
