Let me just start by saying this guy is super smug and annoying but just focus on the bike. How the actual f&ck do you do such a thing to an engine?!

I'd say one of the valves dropped and it smashed the piston to bits. It's an entry level motorcycle, so the odds are the owner had no mechanical sympathy and didn't pull the clutch in the moment something went wrong.

My father managed quite the same thing on his car, well his car was 18 years old at that time with over 300,000 km on the ODO meter. Instead of just disengaging the clutch he let the car to ''push'' the engine thinking it should resolve the issue.

So, either retainer pin or the valve spring failed. How? Material fatigue (my father's car), defective parts, overheating leading to premature wear.

Nothing special there and I don't know what he's got to be smug about when he's wondering if it's the top of the conrod.

That's a straight-up piston skirt failure. It was probably clacking away for a time before it failed, just like this one I had to sort out.

Very much the point. I agree with your view on this. Thumbs Up
