|
|
Hello, can anyone recommend a good navigation for an android phone?
The most important features I'm looking for are:
- option to import previously recorded tracks in at least one of these formats: GPS, KML, KMZ
- working offline
- Proper speed\red light camera alerts
Something free would be great, but if there is no free app with above features then I'm happy to pay for something that does it well
And the following features would be a big advantage:
- option to record and export routes,
- proper average speed cameras alerts, if it actually exist - letting you know when you enter the average speed camera zone and when you exit it
I tried a lot of apps before, but they all have some issues:
- Google Maps
* can't import previously recorded route unless it's exported from GoogleMaps otherwise you just need to plan it in GoogleMaps yourself,
* very poor speed, red light camera alerts
- Waze
* can't import previously recorded route
* doesn't work offline, which is a deal breaker
- OsmAnd
* no speed\red light camera warnings
* not the best interface and look of maps
Also can anyone recommend a good software for editing preciously recorded tracks (like adding new stops, changing the route etc.)? |

Have used Copilot for 7 years (paid £35 I think).
Offline maps .
It's not perfect. They stopped the vehicle road/speed preference setting (luckily mine still works so they can't have phased out the function in the background yet).
Occasionally it asks you to turn left, turn right when going in a straight line.
Once every 10 trips, the audio dies or the app dies, not sure which.
But I've used it for 7 years because:
1. I can design maps and upload them.
2. Offline maps.
3. Works 95% of the time.
4. Speed cameras + over speed warning (switchable).
I use the free Java app https://www.routeconverter.com/home/en to create custom routes and upload if required.
And to convert routes from other sources (KML etc)
You can edit routes once in Copilot, drag routes around, avoid road, use road etc Save the route. But its easier doing it on computer.
EDIT:
Sygic might be worth a look. Also, TomTom do a dedicated phone app now IIRC. |

Garmin have Base Camp mapping software. Free to download and use.
There are better I'm sure but base camp sort of works.
I'm not certain, I think It only connects to Garmin products for data transfer.
Possibly maps and routes can be exported too.
I don't fuck much with it now though. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |
