I've used one of those to stir my sugar as well. Nothing suitably rigid was to hand, so I used one of those to create a whirlpool so that the sugar stirred itself.

I noticed this morning that when I am not percussing the shit out of the tea, I stir it ANTICLOCKWISE Shocked

I am surprised.
Being a right handed type, I expected it would just naturally be clockwise.

Why does one need to stir?

I put the coffee in the cafetiere add nearly boiling water, wait 3 or 4 mins, plunge and pour.

Nothing else is needed to be done nor added.

It's to do with 'the rule of diminishing returns'.

Also why one's 2nd cup never satisfies quiet as much as the 1st cup.

Or indeed the second half of the cup.

I am on my second cup (one Earl Grey, one monkey tea) and once the initial "ahhhhh, tea" frisson has passed, the bottom half goes cold and is a lot less pleasant.

*plus I worry about seeing spider feet lurking in the bottom.

Does stirring the monkey have the same effect as spanking the monkey?

Mr Mcgregor. As Scottish as a Glaswegian ex-shipyard worker could ever be.
In the 4 years that I knew him, he only smiled once and that was at a school secretary when she handed him a letter and even then it was more of a sneer.
Full on shouting, not talking, and threats from the start of each lesson.
He actually kept part of one lads scalp in a clear plastic bag beside the pedestal drill - long hair days, no hair net and that very drill ripped it from the lads hair. Actually a true story cos we knew him and only Jock the Bastard would keep such a souvenir.
To make matters worse he had quite big lips and as he shouted he would spray us with spit constantly.

I don't stir - I use the spoon to dig into the cup like an excavator. That way the sunken sugar on the bottom is raised through the liquid and allowed to fall down again. It dissolves far better like that. Stirring keeps the sugar running in circles at the bottom and does not sweeten the top.

This ^

Vertical swirl, or occasionally side-to-side or figure of 8 waveing with the spoon flat to the direction of wave to create randomised vortexes with the convex and concave sides. Stirring does not effectively mix in the sugar through the vertical layers.

With regard to flasks. Black tea is fine in a flask. Ok with sugar or even a slice of lemon. Milk in a separate bottle if required.

Sugar lumps for camping, then you can pick them up again in the even of a spill. Pack the milk on the outside of your gear.

Ah but my coffee gets stirred a couple of minutes into brewing time in the cafetier and then left to brew for another minute or so.

Clockwise.

My boss once asked me to reheat his cold tea in the microwave.

Before I put it in I stirred it with my cock.

Does that count?

Oi I resemble that remark. I am a fully legal alien Laughing

Those of us who stir their tea backwards may be ... duh duh duhhhhhh ... malignant agents of the Beast ... but that doesn't make us immediately deportable.

I'm already slightly concerned that Uncle Boris is going to find a dodgy reason to send me "home" Rolling Eyes

But not just because I percuss the tea and stir it backwards.

Me too, but I then go clockwise to slow that swirl.
Right handed as well.

So.
Following further research:

I percuss the tea clockwise.
But when I stir it, I stir it counterclockwise.

Always with my right hand.
Because if I did it with my left, there'd be shit all over the place.

Definitely something antipodean going on there.
