Currently clearing the shed and finally found a small 'R' clip that was lost (went ping) when changing pads on the rear Brembo brake. I'd replaced it with a normal split pin which was fine but it's always better to use original parts.
My OCD is calmer now!

Still to do:-

Oil and filter change
Fit braided hoses
Change the grips and fit bar end weights
Clean the chain and re lube it
Fit a working fuel gauge.

Made the most of a unusually good weathered day and took half the bike apart so I could lift the tank and replace the rubber clutch hose with a braided one.

Ride impending, but if only replacing the ABS brake lines with braided ones were as easy... that can wait till summer.

Bought one. Started hearing noises I want to investigate on the work hack, and my mate had this GSX600F going cheap. It's almost too nice for a work hack, but it'll do for now until I fix whatever is happening with the 250.

Made some new pushrods. The ends were loose in two of them making the bike rattle when hot. I turned 2 new tubes and pressed the original ends into them.

Tank halfway done for the project bike. Thick primer coat waiting to dry. That's it for today.

Milliput to fill out cavities around the mounts where the side badges were, and to fill out the dents. Initial primer layer to fill out metal-deep scratched areas, and around the Milliput filling, then all sanded down and shaped to create a contiguous tank-like form.

This will be sanded down a lot when dry, ready for painting (in a few weeks).

For £2250, you could get the kind with engine, *and* a good time from the kind with tits. Both of which would be significantly more fun than a posh pushbike. If I get sweaty on a bike, it's got tits or I'm in leathers on a hot day.

Fabricationinings for project bike. Battery box/tray and oil cooler hanger finished. It all lines up and fits to the frame. Happy with it as my tools are basic (a hammer, an angle grinder and a stick welder). I was originally going to install a strap for the battery, but I won't be doing that now, as it's a snug fit in the battery box. The battery box consists of pieces of scrap sheet steel folded into a box-like shape, and then welded together. It will lie slung under the seat, behind the airbox.
The oil cooler hanger is necessary because the frame wasn't designed to house an engine with an oil cooler. I made this from a piece of angle iron, from which I cut 2 flat pieces along the fold, then welded them alongside the main piece. This piece will be visible on the bike, so it's dressed up.

On its way: sidestand (I'll be adapting one from a different bike). Also finished (but not pictured as they're attached and I don't want to uncover the frame): front and rear seat mounts.

Still don't know where I'm going to put the electrics. It might go behind the seat for ease of access without needing to remove the seat or side panels (which have yet to be made). Under the seat would be tricky. More thinking time needed.

Other than that, I know exactly how the bike will be put together, now.

Attempted to figure out why she revs like a bitch until she warms up. if you drop the choke off and bring her below 3500-4000, she dies, but once she's warm she'll happily sit around 1000RPM.

Initial thoughts were inlet rubber, but squirting brake cleaner at the base of each rubber had no apparent effect. One workshop post coming up.

Project's sidestand done. Cut the nub off from the foot, and moved it to the outer-side centre-ish position along the stand for where the spring will attach. There was originally a hook-like protuberance for the spring halfway along the opposite side. I'd cut that off and used it some time ago to modify another sidestand.

The baby Bandit.

Paid someone else to do the fork seals
Took off the hideous heated grips and fitted Renthal medium compund grips.
Chainged the oil and filter
Changed the air filter
Cleaned and lubed the chain.

I'm not sure I have told the story of this bike....

This was my first big bike after passing my test in 1998, I crashed it in January 2000 smashing up both my wrists.
I never really rode it again and sold it in 2002 to fund a GSXR.

Instant regret.

I always swore if I ever found it again I would buy it back. Fast forward to late last year my dad found it oin ebay about 50 miles away from where I used to live.

A bit of haggling and a road trip later and she was mine again!!!

Total cost £600.

Just dripping a little where I spilled oil on the headers when changing the filter.

It will burn/wash off.

Replaced the spark plug, cleaned the (foam) air filter and dusted the bike down. Bike has a dust sheet over it but for some reason dust gets through or is that why they're called dust sheets..
Once dust was off went through all of the pivots and bendy metal bits and oiled/greased as one should.

Stopped and gazed lovingly at it before remembering it's too windy for me at the moment.

Crosswinds scare the shiznits out of me. Bus and train for now.

Fitted some heated grips (a gift from the wife!)

https://i.imgur.com/lMi2eLx.jpg?1

Nice tidy job with all the bits they give you. Only the cable ties were inadequate. Luckily there's a 12V "option" socket in the head lamp. It's intended for the factory-fit USB charger but scanning the wiring diagram it's on it's own 7.5A fuse which is more than enough for the grips. No worries about forgetting to switch them off and relying on the "intelligent" cut-off Smile

Ride faster, avoid exposed areas, avoid a situation of slowing traffic on an exposed bridge, much safer to lane split. I ride everyday. Its not too wet down here in the south but the number of fuckwit cars Ive seen in ditches and off the road is crazy. Its not the weather, but other drivers I am worried about, but you get that all year round. Sod being on a bus in bad weather!

Applied fallout remover to the 600's wheels. Washed the roadshite off of the 600 and VFR.
Discovered the Remus can on the 600 has a 53mm inlet, so I can't swap the baffled Delkevic (51mm) onto it for work purposes. Neighbours will have to deal with it as I can't find a 53mm inline baffle.
Put the clothes back on the 600. Warmed it up, thrashed it about a bit.
Put an unbaffled Lextek can on the Viffer for shits and giggles - Neighbours will have to deal with it, it's nicely offensive and boomy.
