I'm not going to bother with the self flagellation or outpouring of grief. I'm just utterly amazed at the surprise that this happened.

One of my friends wives is German from Karlsruhe and she says the tensions in her city are bad, and that isn't Eastern Germany where she says it is much worse.

Is it because of Angela's millions of migrants. Of course there have always been extremists but it seems to be growing in leaps and bounds and 2015 onwards hasn't helped.

When we see what is happening in Germany and France we don't have much trouble here in comparison and that I think is one good reason for immigration controls.

It might not actually mean a huge amount but to be seen to be doing something is incredibly important to a lot of people and that was another of Labours failings, they seemed to be more interested in migrants ( and LBGWXYZ ) than the British worker who they were formed to protect.

Of course the British are pretty much sheep anyway. Waving EU or Union flags or digging up lawns is the height of civil disobedience in the UK.

I still wonder if Enoch Powells 'Rivers of Blood' will happen. Maybe not here but in Germany.

Does the old saying if you can't beat 'em join 'em work for anyone? From what I understand the vast majority of European muslims don't give a stuff about attacks on other religions. Should we be adopting the same attitude and not give a stuff about them?

I'm not in the least surprised when this stuff happens, just saddened that this is what Europe has become.
There is prevailing narrative of a two tier justice(and social justice) system with immigrants taking priority. I haven't seen any decent counter arguments, just suppression and name calling.
This isn't a healthy direction.

The last time I was in Hamburg, within 10minutes of leaving the flughaven , there was an argument between my taxi driver. Who well was light brown and some locals.

The extremism is the tiny little thin edge of the wedge.

And it's been caused by the people in power not taking any notice of how upset certain parts of their population is getting.

For every 1 who's picking up a gun there are probably millions who feel, rightly or wrongly, that they are second class citizens in their own country. When politicians spend more time harping on about racists who voted for Brexit or how all the worlds ills can be laid at the foot of the white man. Add BAME and even the ubiquitous LBGTWXY are other streams alienating certain portions of the indigenous populations because being coloured or a <something> gives you much more credibility than being a moaning white. Plus you can always shout racist/islamophopic/homophobic or whatever else you scan stick phobic onto if you don't get what you want.

If politicians and others spent a little of their time listening and trying to help these people then I believe that would counter a lot of the animosity. If they don't, they are playing into the extremists hands. Blanket calling everyone who doesn't agree with their policies racist (Hello Labour) is not helpful.

I have a friend who's wife is German. He told me once that he was at a bus stop over there and these young Turkish guys were pestering this girl. So he said something and stopped them. Everyone else at the stop did nothing, when he told his wife what happened she said it was because they would have been scared of being accused of racism if they'd intervened.

one wonders how long the pressure builds before we see angela merkal swinging from a lamp post for bringing this immigration policy in. I suspect there is a boiling point, in which in some point in the future, the anger will get to a point in which the germans will elect a german 'donald trump'
