Im pootling about in my mums old Vauxhall Agila and the fuel filler pipe is rusted to F. Pupes cost about £40 excluding fittings (jubilee clips, bolts etc). Its not outwith my spannering skills but it might be easier and less time consuming for me to just do an extra shift at work if the cost of having a garage do it is cheap enough. It looks lime a sub 1 hour job for a properly tooled uo mechanic. So how much do you think it would cost?

Cheers

Phone up your garage and ask them. Say £45/hr labour rate plus the dreaded at a guess unless it's a "glass palace" in which case avoid. Also ask how much for the part, and if thats too much there's no harm in asking if they will fit a part sourced by you.

Is it easy or is it a tank out job too? Sometimes tank straps rust and cause bother too which would add to the expense.

Easy enough job but would be a pain to to with the car on a jack, I wouldn't tackle it without a car lift, the fuel tanks are made from paper thin metal too so be careful with any "wiggling" when trying to separate the rubber joiner from the filler .

Wow, I had no idea, that's quite interesting. Any guesses as to what proportion of (car) fuel tanks are metal these days?

It's a rebadged Suzuki wagon R. So it probably does have a thin metal tank. Rust bucket cars sadly.

It has a galvanised body so not a rust-bucket at all. Apart from the slowest gearbox on earth its a great car.

Ok , I take that on board, some of the early Suzuki built ones were rubbish though.

They were good cars. Certainly the Vauxhall versions. Vauxhall screwed up when they changed it.
