Here's a thought. Maybe we'll look back at Brexiteers in the same way we do with Suffragettes and Chartists: the wresting of power from the bloated and arrogant elite and redistributing it back to the people ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

That suggests that Brexiteers are all socialists. I don't think that at all. Brexit for me wasn't some kind of neo-Marxist revolution. For me, it was about taking back control of our own country, because I simply don't like the direction and philosophy of the EU. True, there are things I don't like about capitalism, but I wouldn't suggest complete abandonment of it. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Capitalism is meant to be a part of democracy, to serve us. It's not meant to dictate everything in our lives. If we let it do that, as the trend has been, we are lost. We might as well let the machines run everything and terminate the human race. I don't want to live in a world that is all about numbers. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Of course, we could have opted for the Dear Leaders of the EU. But who the fuck are they?! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I understand your point. Incidentally, it is curiously similar to what assorted Dear Leaders' mouthpieces have been on about for decades - if I was the suspicious type, I'd think that someone put it in your head.
Anyway I merely invite you to consider:
* Did these towers in fact exist?
* Our own new Dear Leader; what is his dwelling made of? How tall is it? |
TBH I used to believe it all went wrong with the Chartists but then it was pointed out to me they marched not to bring down the establishment but to join it. Same with the Suffragettes, the message was "we want to participate [in democracy]" It doesn't seem like they were asking for much, looking back on it, but at the time it would have been "who do these people think they are?!"
And now it's happened again. "The great and the good" have howled that the proles have got it all wrong - again - "half of them haven't even been to college, let alone university! How can they understand such complex issues..."
"Ivory Towers" is archaic - always a nice turn of phase though - but the contemporary might be "Echo Chamber" or "Twitter-sphere" and there's no better example of the failure of an Echo Chamber than the previous Parliament: "We shall treat the decision of the public [over Brexit] with the derision it deserves!" and then hurled themselves, lemming-like, over the cliff of principle. How very noble!
Boris may be a man of many words and few actions but remember who handed him the keys to No.10: the middle-class snobs who sneered at the working man and his real-world experience. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

cdlxxvi wrote: | Brexit is a completely different process: a "bloated and arrogant elite" fed us anti-EU slogans for years, and baited us with tales of power & prosperity we will have if we give them what they want.
Brexit isn't of course bringing any tangible wide advantage like suffrage; instead we get more slogans on how we conquered some enemy that was made up in the 1st place. |
And the EU didn't treat us like a red-headed step-child for years and years? An economic union was what people voted in the '70s not a Federal Europe run by unelected bureaucrats.
So we've been fed lies for years to convince us of the Euro-evil? And yet almost everyone in the MSM - to a man (I can't desexualise that turn of phrase so tough titty) - wailed before, during and after about how terrible leaving the EU would be. Brexiteers were openly branded as racists, many kittens died...
Let's accept, for the moment, that 52% of the populous were 100% manipulated into voting for Brexit. What conclusions can we draw?
1) That the Remoaners weren't very good at countering such lies
2) That despite > 3 years of wailing of how bad things would be still the populous were unmoved. Remember: every Remoaner ejected from the Tory party failed to get elected. Not. A. Single. One. That's how unmoved the electorate were by the arguments.
Time to admit failure. The Remoaners failed to swing the Brexit vote. They failed to subvert Democracy while in Parliament. A good chunk got their arses handed to them in the election. Failure, failure, failure... what to do?
I know, let's blame the electorate for "wrong-think" surely with more "education" they'd see the error of their ways? ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I think it's the strangest thing. It's like people keep telling you your flies are undone, so you know, but you just keep walking around like it, like you think it's normal and everyone else should be walking round like that too. You'd think by now he'd have got the message. Hell, maybe he actually thinks somebody cares what he thinks about Brexit. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
