Hi all,

I haven't posted on here for a year or two. At the time I think I had 3 bikes - an SV650, a BSA C15, and a KTM EXC400.

Over the last few years I have sold the bikes one by one with lack of use, and just last week I finally sold the last one - the KTM. I certainly don't intend on hanging up my helmet any time soon though, and at some point in the next couple of months I'll be looking to purchase the bike I've always wanted - a BMW GS.

I'll be using it for weekend rideouts and camping trips, probably a little bit of riding to work, and all being well a trip or two to Europe each year. The 1200s are too big for what I want, and I like the idea of taking it on an occasional trail. I've got some experience of off roading with the TRF and although my offroad ability is firmly novice, I still like the idea of a bike that I could fit knobblys to if I felt like it. The big GS is just too big and heavy for me to realistically do it.

So my budget will be about 5K which isn't enough to get the more modern 750gs or 850gs, but should be enough to get me an 800gs or 700gs and that's what I'm trying to decide between?

From what I understand the 700 is the softer more road biased version, but the 800 is the better looking bike, and I can add some accessories to make it more similar to an Adventure spec bike. My question is what are the recommendations & experiences of you good people?
