True, but what Glans 72 has to do with Alex Salmond is a mystery to me.

Salmond is a Scotsman.

Glans 72 hates the Scotch.

I see that, in the midst of CoronaCrisis, Alex 'busy hands' Salmond got off scott free.

Apologies for posting a non-Corona piece of news.

He got a not proven on one charge. That's a way of saying "we can't say you were innocent of the charge because there wasn't enough evidence to completely exonerate you". Or another way would be "We know you're guilty, there's just not enough proof either way".

Not proven leaves a bit of a cloud hanging over the defendant. Thumbs Up

You do know it's a very sensitive subject for the Scottish legal system?

Debated for years to be removed.
But it does give a jury an out.

I look at it as a Draw.

The case then goes into extra time.

It's a weapon used by criminal defence solicitors.
They can sway a jury to vote not proven.

Either ye did or ye didnae (Or mibby ye did, or mibby ye didnae)

At least he'll no doubt be keeping a low profile, so we won't see his toad like face popping up everywhere telling England to fcuk off.

I felt uneasy about this and the Weinstein case. Women saying #MeToo years after the event in the expectation that multiple claims will coalesce into a guilty verdict when there's no evidence. Weinstein seemed to have had lots of plaudits from actresses saying he had advanced their careers, then suddenly he's the devil. I don't like Salmond but that's no reason to assume he's guilty as charged.

I do live in Scotland old chap Wink

I also think it's one of the great facets of the Scottish legal system along with a jury of 15. Thumbs Up

My theory is that these celebs / sportsmen / politicians do the naughty and shit gradually piles up. This is batted off (super injunctions etc.) until it reaches critical mass (usually related to a reduction in the individuals power status).

Once beyond critical mass, there is some sort of #metoo movement, and EVERYONE comes out against this soul. The media, from keeping it hush, suddenly turns on how bad it is, how you should think it's bad, how it's always been bad.

For example, Schofield got dangerously close to this critical mass point, but has now got away with it (helped no doubt by Covid-19).

Meanwhile Johnson's PUKE (Partially United Kingdom of England) is becoming official. Moving goods to NI will be practically exporting from next year.

Quote:
firms in Great Britain will be obliged to complete three rounds of customs, security and transit forms on all goods.

The electronic documents will need to be completed whether there is a Brexit trade deal or not and will apply to all suppliers.

An 11-page slide presentation from HMRC, outlining the new system, states: “To achieve customs control, we need to ensure that all goods are presented and declared to customs.”

HMRC finally reveals plans for Brexit checks on goods going to Northern Ireland

Under a new “Goods Vehicle Movement Service” (GVMS) system, hauliers or the owners of the freight will be obliged to pre-lodge three types of electronic paperwork before getting on a ferry from British ports such as Liverpool or Cairnryan in Scotland to Northern Ireland.

The first paperwork applying to suppliers is an import declaration form setting out the customs code or codes for all the goods being transported to Northern Ireland.

Second, the supplier will have to complete a safety and security declaration, paperwork that is currently waived on all goods being sold within the EU’s single market.

Suppliers will then have to provide their truckers with a transit accompanying document (TAD) which must remain with the vehicle at all times so the EU can be guaranteed that the load that departs Great Britain is the same as the one arrives.
