Just resurrected my old PS2 (soldered wires chewed by the wifes rabbits). Got tomb raider, TR2 and angel of Darkness somewhere in the attic.

However just started a new FFX game. That should kill some downtime! FFVII, VIII and XIII also in the collection.

Started playing it last night... it's a bit, erm, "rapey" Shocked Feminist's wet-dream of a game.

Yep, absolutely agree. Made in 2013, the height of the SJW era, the underlying theme is obvious. Sexy-but-not-properly-sexy female character goes through hardship, deals with dumb leching males and hops around the environment a bit.

Even ignoring that aspect, it just isn't anything like the original Tomb Raider games. I simply cannot understand why it has such high ratings. It's okay as a standalone game, but how anyone can think this is "the best Tomb Raider to date" is beyond me.

I completed the game. She spent more time falling than doing anything else.

I'm getting more into it now, but not as a Tomb Raider game.

It feels more like a kind of feminist Gears of War. Similar environment styles, similar 'hide behind stuff and shoot', and similar endless cut-scenes holding your hand through the whole game.

And I hate the concept of buying skills and upgrading weapons. It's needless finicky shite. Just give me weapons, ammo, jump/block/switch puzzles and a ton of tombs to raid.

I suppose it depends on the difficulty level you have it set at but it's a bit jarring to go from Parkour Puzzling to stacking up bodies with an SMG. I think Indiana Jones only shot the one guy...

Oh yeah, and conveniently you only get to kill rapists men. Still a good game for its age but I'm glad it was free!

I played it around when it came out and thought it was ok, but the ending fight was absolutely terrible and ruined it for me really. I've got the second game on Steam but I haven't bothered giving it a go yet.

Finished it now.

Well, I finished the story mode, and 76% of the other useless collector challenges which are all completely pointless 'find 5 more items like this in the map' shite. Utterly pointless.

I am truly disappointed with this game. The plot and script seems like it was written by the Hollyoaks team, i.e. second rate bollocks with second rate voice acting, and the gameplay is nothing more than jumping and climbing and shooting human enemies. Ugh I can't even put into words how let down I am, not just by the game itself but by the majority of other players who think that this is the best Tomb Raider game to date. It isn't Tomb Raider at all!

I managed over 90% which is what you need if you want to max out the pointless "skills." I think we've probably got a bit jaded about the quality of games at this point Smile

Funny thing is that'd I'd recently finished Jedi Fallen Order and the Parkour elements are pretty much a carbon copy. Except in Fallen Order all the unbelievable acrobatics you can forgive 'cos "he's a fecking Jedi, 'ave it!" There's also the parallel with the totally bollox "sensitive plot." After yet another emotional cut scene you go back out and hack up a load of Stormtroopers...

Their whining was actually quite amusing though, the last one standing often saying something along the lines of "oh no! just me left..."

Nothing beats the whine of hacking down a dwarf in Warhammer Online: "oh bugger!"

It seems to be a problem across a lot of the creative industries.

There are highly skilled people making the stuff happen, i.e. programmers, artists, musicians, CGI people, camera crew, etc etc, but the folk adding the 'human' touch, i.e. stories, characters, emotions, are thick as planks, they obviously don't have any hard skills as per the list above, so they schmooze their way into the 'easy' parts and completely ruin it.
