I would go down the buy a cheap geared bike to practice with, plenty chep ones out there, doesnt have to be fancy.

practice for a while then then book your DAS

you would only get 1st gear on your drive unless it's long, you might get 2nd gear.
The best way is to get out on it, or get someone to take it in a van to a private road. A riding school will have a 125 and could teach you correctly.

Or a suburban maze; plenty of road to practice on yet without any fast traffic to get nervous about. He'll just have to be mindful of kids running from behind parked cars.

To me the obvious thing to do is to ask the school you did your CBT with if you can just do a CBT again but on a geared bike. It’s the perfect environment and you’ll be taken through the steps of clutch control and gear changes, followed by a few hours of actual road riding. I wouldn’t see any shame in doing this and it’ll also put you in a more informed position at the end of the day of if you’re ready for Direct Access or not (your instructor will have a good idea too as they would have observed you - ask them what they think)
